Unlike other reviewers, I have no trouble getting my Bosch router in and out of the base.  Fits like a glove and works great

Bosch reat quality

This plunge base would easily get 5 stars IF:
1. there was a way to keep the plunge lever unlocked without needing to hold down the lever.
2. The face place was changed for one that accepted the standard router bushings, instead of needing Bosch's RA1129 template adapter.

In an ideal world I would be able to completely unlock the plunge base so I don't have to continue to hold the lever the entire time. If I'm doing 50 20mm dog holes on a table, this kills my thumb. I will most likely look into just removing the lever all together.

Unlike other reviews I have not experienced issues with my motor getting stuck in this base. If anything maybe apply a little paste wax before using this for the first time. I would still recommend this base, but I would also recommend swapping out the bottom plate with one that could support Porter Cable style bushings without needing Bosch's proprietary bushing holder.

Solid plunge base with plenty of accessories

I have a RA1166 from about 15 years ago that still works perfectly. Since that is mounted semi-permanently in a large jig, I was looking for a second one for speedier workflow. I received as a gift up a new RA1166 last year and finally got around to using it. Out of the box the new RA1166 has a very sticky/jerky plunge action which makes it impossible to smoothly plunge in and out of cuts.  Also the fine adjustment on the depth stop has almost no friction, and can actually move due to the vibration of the machine while cutting.  It seems I'm not the only one to notice these isues.  Sad to see the definite slip in quality compared to the undeniable excellence of my 15yo RA1166.

Quality not what it was

This plunge base does not slide smoothly, but gets stuck unpredictably. So I have to push and pull and jiggle the thing while I'm trying to make a smooth cut. this usually causes causes imperfections in the cut or ruins it completely.
 I can't see any way to lubricate it, either.

Sticks when plunging

I bought this with the kit that included the fixed base. The fixed base works fine but the plunge base plunge action is not smooth at all. It is very jerky and sticks. I have lubricated both sides and it is still the same. Can't find anything online about how to fix this problem.

Plunge action not smooth

the first time using it. the fine adjustment knob fell off its threads and into router bit. very dangerous . poor design. it seems to only be held on with an o ring causing friction. 
its totally useless     I will probably use lock tight on threads and never use it as a fine adjustment.  very dissappointed in Bosch.

plunge base 1166

The jerky motion is real. This piece of total junk is dangerous to use due to the plunge mechanism being unreliable. You can't ever know for sure if it's going to plunge smoothly or return when you press the lever lock. I'm baffled as to why so many people recommended the 1617 router kit with this plunge base when it's completely non-functional and the reviews show it's not a one-off. I thought Bosch was supposed to be known for well designed and quality manufactured tools but times have apparently changed since they can't engineer a better plunge base than what you get on a Hercules or Skil branded bargain tool.

Bosch Makes Junk

Like most other reviewers on here, I can't seem to get a router in or out of this dang thing. The router gets about an inch into the base and gets stuck. Metal on metal and WILL NOT move further. Getting it back out is almost equally as impossible, but luckily, it's doable. Between this and the last charger base I got, I'm disappointed in Bosch's downhill quality.

Glad to See I'm Not an Idiot

I have taken my Bosch 1617EV router in and out of this thing maybe 25 times, which isn't a lot, and it marred the router chassis so terribly that even the router is almost unusable. Came here to replace the plunge base because I had to break it to get the piece to give up the router and am now in the middle of a project and need to complete with the same tool(s). Needless to say this plunge base will be the last Bosch tool I ever buy. They didn't used to be this cheap...

your Bosch router will get stuck in this.
