I have the Hamilton Beach Easy Access 12-Cup maker and the top of the filter basket is round, but takes #4 cone shaped filters. I thought that would be a problem, but it wasn't. It worked fine though I noticed that some steam was coming out the top of the coffee maker.... so what I did was put the filter basket in while I was cleaning the coffee maker (running vinegar water through, then just water) and in between each cycle, I took it out and squeezed it into shape. Now I can't say that it's technically safe to heat plastic like that, but I felt fine doing it as it's BPA-free. The good news is it now fits perfectly and I've never had to do it again!

I sometimes make only 1 or 2 cups at a time (my coffee maker has the option) but no matter how big or small, I never have grounds in my coffee like I do with some paper filters or reusable ones I tried in the past. I usually buy medium grind, but occasionally use a fine grind like Lavazza, and both work. There is no weird aftertaste and I find it helps cut the bitterness/sourness of the cheaper coffees (which are my "every day coffees"). 

It's very easy to dump and rinse. Just give it a squeeze/tap over the trash or compost, rinse, and it's ready to use again - but I also soak it in soapy water once a day to keep it clean. Every so often I run it through the dishwasher or soak in vinegar water to remove any build up (I have hard water).  It's held up very well through very frequent use!
