Almost all the reviews on this item are negative and related to quality. This is not a fair take AT ALL. Please allow me to give some perspective for anyone considering this item.

I work for a locally owned electrical distribution company in the Omaha, NE area. Since 2010 we have sold approximately 1,200 of these units (as of Dec 2022), and in all that time only 7 of them have been reported as defective.

Keep in mind we are a very small company compared to many around the nation who sell this same item. Only 14 (at time of review) people have reviewed this item on NuTone's website and rated it poorly for quality.

When you consider that a door bell is a background type of item which, if working properly, you don't think about at all, it makes sense that virtually no one thinks to log on to NuTone's website and give it a good review. On the other hand, if an item happens to go bad people get understandably angry and want to make their frustrations known.

So, you end up with a tiny handful of negative reviews and no positive reviews on what is actually a quite good and dependable product.

Just some food for thought. This is actually a very good item for the price. Don't let the miniscule amount of angry reviewers skew your perspective!

I have already been through 2 of these chimes in less than 2 years... For some reason, the spring breaks every time

Cutie

This chime only lasted 5 years.  As another reviewer said, the spring and plastic component in the wall fixture broke off and can't be fixed.

Expect to replace this

The doorbell was installed no more than three months ago and already it making humming noises. The humming is so bad that my dog is terrified of the noise it makes. It is so bad I had to unscrew all the wires to stop the noise. I would NOT recommend this product.

Humming is a huge problem

I just moved into my home in Sept 2021 and have been having issues with doorbell. It started to make a humming noise so I took the cover off to see what was causing it. The white plastic things with spring broke. My house is a new build and we only live in the home for two months. I'm reading all the reviews and it sounds like this is happening to a lot of customers. Please let me know what I can do to get replacement parts or have someone to come replace the whole unit

Suspect System

Sir/Ma'am,

My doorbell was used today. It rang once and left a loud humming sound. I opened the case and two small plastic pieces fell out, as well as, a spring. Only used about twenty times. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. Please see the photo enclosed.

Same As Most

Our house is about 20 months old and the door bell has stopped working, I pulled the button on the front door to see if there was any loose wires, none. I also noticed that the button light was not on? I proceeded to the door bell and when I pulled the cover off a spring and part of a white plastic piece fell out( after reading all the comments, it looks like a common issue). This is a poorly designed product and I would think it would last longer than about 20 months.

Poor Design

My builder installed this unit and in a short time, it stopped working.  Like most of the other reviews, I opened the unit and a plastic piece and a spring fell out.  I guess builders buy them because they are cheap.  I expected better from NuTone.

Very poor quality

Same as many other reviews, indicating a high rate of defects or a design flaw.  We had a 2020 new construction and the builder installed this device (actually a model BK125LW-1).  After a few months, it stopped working and we removed the cover to find a spring and white plastic piece fall out.  The white plastic piece had been crushed into pieces.

Obvious High Rate of Defects

My house is new construction and this doorbell stopped working after a couple months then I noticed a humming one night coming from the chime. Felt it and it was hot, took the cover plate off and the spring shot off and I ended up having to flip the breaker to get the heat to stop
