The doorbell was installed in my house by my contractor in 2021 as part of a major renovation. It overheated and stopped functioning. I contacted the company: it sounds like a common problem. The employee asked me for my proof of purchase: of course, I did not have it after four years, and the product was purchased by my contractor. So, I smell pictures as proofs of ownership. The employee ignored me since. Avoid this poor-quality product: a doorbell should last for more than four years.

I am very disappointed. After a year and a half, the bell stopped working. I am experiencing the same issue as other customers: the top plastic striker and spring came off. It is clear to me that the company is aware of this issue but continues to sell a defective product.

Bad product

Our builder installed the BROAN-NUTONE BK125LWH-1 door-bell & chimes in our new home 11 months ago. It has worked fabulously - as a door bell. However we've now decided we'd like to update this door-bell to one with a camera compatible with our cell-phones, ipads, etc. and settled on a unit requiring 16-24 volts AC @ 50 - 60 Hz, & 40 VA (W) max. The operating voltage for the BK125LWH-1 measures 18 VAC, at the former switch (now camera) located outside, at the door, but it appears that the BK125LWH-1 transformer is not supplying adequate power to operate both, the chimes and the camera. According to the camera manufacturer's web site for "Compatible Mechanical Chimes", the BK125LWH-1 chimes are supposedly compatible with the selected Doorbell/Camera,, but at this point in time, "NO SUCH LUCK!"  However, as  doorbell, the BK125LWH-1 "Does it's job" as already stated elsewhere in these reviews, and looks nice inside our home. It would be even MORE NICE, if it also chimed with the camera connected.

Wow! I have never seen so many negative reviews! This doorbell must be absolutely horrible. It also seems Nutone is one of those "get the money and run" type of businesses. My house came with this model and I will be ripping it out ASAP and going with any other brand.

That bad, huh?!

We built a house with Cardel in Sept 2020. It is dec 2022 and our experience is eerily similar to several reviews here. The doorbell got stuck and we didn't notice. Moments later there was a stink and a buzzing sound from the unit. We figured out it was the doorbell and  got it unstuck. I took the cover off the unit and like other reviewers noticed the plastic broken off and the spring loose. Not impressed with the cheap quality of this product and disappointed with the developer/builder for picking such cheap, unreliable parts.

Cheap quality

Brand New house. Doorbell failed just under a year. I have a strong Electronic/electrical background. Troubleshooting this door bell chime and found many issues. Upstairs chime coil melted and failed on front doorbell. In turn damaged basement chime, and transformer at main panel. Rear doorbell switch works but no more light. Front doorbell was blackened/melted as well. Where is the circuit protection? All wiring was correct and both doorbell switches were in a dry area. Very unimpressed. Read other comments and reviews and they are accurate and very terrifying. Called 1888 number and seems to be no longer in use. Wonder why? Will be asking the other neighbours to see how theirs are working. Seems many are swapped to camera doorbells.

Nothing but a nightmare

We moved into our home on September 23, 2020. The door bell stopped working November 1, 2020. SERIOUSLY!! We are in a brand new home and something so small as the doorbell stopped working immediately. Broan NuTone should be ashamed of themselves for making such a crappy product!!! This model of doorbell should be pulled from the market and I kinda have a feeling that you all know that this model of doorbell is FAULTY!!

CHEAP DOORBELL SHOULD BE PULLED OFF THE MARKET!!!!

The builder installed the Nutone BK125LWH when the home was built. After two years, the ringer got stuck and damaged the coil and plastic ringer. We replaced with the same model and the same thing happened again after approximately 2 years. This will be the second time in 4 years. I am now realizing this is a contractor's quality model because it is not built to last. I'm sure they are purchased in bulk and are a standard item installed in new homes. Both times, we smelled a hot smell and the white cover on the chime is yellowed from the heat damage. I am annoyed that once again, I must purchase yet another door chime and pay an electrician to install it. Lesson learned. I need to look at another model or company.

We have this unit in our new build. We have been in our new house 3 yrs. We have had very few visitors so our doorbell didn't get much use, but today it has quit working. It makes a very soft sound when pressing the door bell. I took the cover off and appears there is a spring that has come loose.

bad product should recall

This subpar doorbell was installed in our new home by licensed electrician August 2021. January 2023 we noticed a noxious burning smell and heard an unusual humming/vibrating noise coming from the chime box for this unit. I took off the white cover and it was yellowed and burned inside due to heat. The upper chime bar was hot to the touch and the left plunger had melted both the top and bottom plastic end cover, which also resulted in the spring coming off and laying in the bottom. This is a dangerous product. I'm currently on hold with customer service -26 minute hold time. This product should be removed from the market.
