[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received this product for free from Brother in exchange for my honest opinion/review of the product. This is a great idea for a home office! We have used this portable scanner a handful of times already and it`s a very convenient way to scan documents on the go and have them sent to your mobile device or stored on your pc. It`s limited in that it`s kinda hard to scan a stack of documents, but for occasional use on the go, this is great.

It's small and convenient and once you get it set up and familiarize yourself with it then you can get rid of all the paper clutter.  I did have issues downloading and once it took it did take some time.  I also did experience some receipt jamming because of the length of the paper.

This is not exactly a review, this is a question I need. I purchased this and it works well, I do have a problem.... I got this scanner mainly to scan pictures (old and some a little thicker then todays prints.) As I put the pictures in they get stuck on the paper holder on the back part of the scanner and will not pushup and  through. Is there a way to take the flap off or lay it down?  I see in some of the advertisements the flap is not there

A bit difficult to set up. Does not charge when connected to just USB. Need device to charge. Battery life his horrible. However for just a some scanner battery is not as important. Ensure you calibrate. Does the job

Does Scan

Although I love the end result ,, the instructions on using the machine are lacking ,, no instructions , I read other reviews online to find out how to start this thing.. I guess I have to go online and get the instructions. I still done know how to turn the 2 sided scan on and off ,, and the software ? well ,, there's Brother Iprint ,, ok, but then there's this sep[erate way you can use it without that software ,,HUH !! and I'm not a novice tag this stuff,,, and what's with that flap ? it sticks up and doesn't go down so when you have a stiff piece you want to scan,, you can't ,,, the worst design I ever saw ,, at least make it go flat..as Isaid ,, once I get to know this machine .. I'll probably love it ,, but the learning curve is way to much Paul

get to know b4 you buy

We have used these portable scanners for years, here and in Italy.  The model we used the most was theDS 620.  Three of those are 8-10 years old and still working.  But they are old enough they are no longer supported on the newer Mac OS systems.  So we purchased this 940 model.  For the most part it is very similar.  The only problem with it is it tends to be very finicky grabbing the paper. It can often take several attempts to get the paper to grab and then be taken in a scan run.  The kind of paper does not seem to matter.  The 620's never cared and took the paper the first try.

I enjoy the small footprint but the power cord is touchy as well as the actual operation of this scanner. I found myself very frustrated with the paper port feeding mechanism also. If there is a true need for this you can make it work but you shouldn't have to work so hard at scanning anything.

Not worth it

Wanted a plug and go. Very easy instruction but couldnt get it work. Downloaded software and alerts started. Paper jam , open top etc.. and hadnt use it.  Never scanned. Sending it pack. Very disappointed.

came with battery that needed changed, wouldn't connect with Chromebook and the Wi-Fi compressed the files to 200 or less dpi, which made them unusable for legal work. only option was a memory card which I wasn't able to try.  brother has allot of work to do . this was a nightmare.
