this printer is absolutely great if you need to be doing every day nome or home business printing. it doesn't have the highest resolution bit the photos "on photo paper " look great. it is faster that my old ink jet from years ago, it simply does the job. mine showed up with the cyan ink cartridge leaking in its package. besides that it was a great experience.  
  unlike others , brother doesn't shut down your printer for using other brand inks... not recommended to do it but they don't punish you for something, even through you bought the printer with your money....

It’s worth what you paid ideal for light duty or school related jobs. The color it’s pretty good quality, and it’s able to print photos and documents from your phone via, wifi or Bluetooth and indies consume more ink then others but you can find the off brand ink cartridges for cheap definitely it’s worth it.

It’s worth the price

This is a high quality printer that is easy to install. It didn't take very long to set up and to get it running. I'm running it off Wi Fi with no problems what so ever. the quality of the copies and prints are very good. It is over all better than the one that it replaced

Excellent copier/printer. Can't recommend enough

Easy to setup and install. I have had so many printers of another brand that did not work right out of the box. This one worked well and has a great wireless connection. I like that the paper loads into a compartment at the bottom of the printer that can be closed off. Overall a great value for the price

Great value for the price

The Brother MFC-J1010DW is a solid all-in-one printer. Printing quality is sharp, duplex printing works well, and the wireless setup is easy. Compact design fits nicely on my desk, and it handles both documents and photos smoothly. Very convenient for home or small office use.

Reliable and Convenient

Great Printer. The cost of ink per page is about 6 cents. Very costly. Bought this printer as a direct replacement for my  Brother I bought 8 years ago. Works the same smaller page yields per cartridge. But if you you print 100-150 pages a month or less.

Great Printer- High Cost per sheet

I bought this printer to replace a Brother J491DW that quit working after several years of home/personal use.  I love these printers for their ease of use to print, copy and scan in addition to the easy slip in/out of the ink cartridges.  It took a couple of days to install this J1010DW model as it wouldn't sync with my internet, then it wouldn't sync with my desktop computer.  This model sounds a bit "clunkier" when it prints than my old model, but overall I like this one for the ease of use.  I went to a store and looked at other models of similar size and price (Cannon, Epson, etc), but they all had some quirky features I didn't like and ended up buying this Brother model.  I don't think they make these anymore so when this one breaks I'm going to be in a pickle.

In a way this is hard to give star ratings to, because I've had a couple years of experience with the same model that I bought for a different location.  And I've generally been so pleased with that one that it's why I bought another one for a different location -- the one being reviewed here.  And this one is inferior to my first Brother MFC-J1010DW in a couple ways:

The first is print quality, which is really crisp on the first one, but noticeably less so on this one.  I've compared printouts of the same document side by side, from the two different units.  Same paper,  Brother Genuine Ink for both.  And I did go through all the print-quality-check functions on the new unit. 

Second issue:  On the new unit, the control panel buttons are kind of hard to press -- some particularly so, such as the direction arrows that you need for entering various commands (including for the aforementioned print quality tests).  In fact, these keys are so tight on the new unit that I have to use two hands -- my left hand holding the control panel in the up position while I press the command arrows and keys with my right hand.  While on the unit I bought a couple years ago, all the buttons are easy to press, but still with a quality feel and response.

It's not so much that the new unit reviewed here is "bad" as that the first one I bought is definitely better.  I wouldn't hesitate giving the older one five stars, especially relative to the price.  On both units I really enjoy the easy two-sided printing and generous-capacity paper tray, among other features.  Too bad Bother's quality control is either inconsistent, or this model's quality has declined over the last few years for the MFC-J1010DW.

Quality control issue?

I'm giving 1 star only because the printer didn't come with starter ink. It may be a good printer, but I can't complete the setup without ink. I'm not sure if this is an issue with Walmart or the manufacturer, and I haven't been able to find any information about what to do when part of the product is missing. Who you gonna call?!

No starter ink

This printer was fine initially, but then started printing poorly, streaky %26 finally completely illegibly. I did all trouble shooting, cleaned the heads, checked the paper alignment, ink cartridges, etc %26 nothing is working. We're likely going to have to either try to return it, take it to a tech store to try to clean internally, etc. It's not really worth the hassle, in my opinion, but I don't want to have to buy a whole new printer either.
