Value For Money

Plate Fit

Can be nicely finished, but also slippery.

Ordered 2 sets of these weights because of the low price, and ordered a set of dumbbells.  Very nice set of weights for the money.  Wasnt sure how i would l like the barbell because it came in 3 pieces, but it goes together easily, and seems very sturdy.   I would definitely recommend this just in the price of the plates alone.  90lbs of plates for $65 is a great price.  Both boxes were packaged very well, I'm sure the FedEx guy doesn't like me anymore though.  Lol

Work Out

Good quality and just the right amount of weight for staying in shape if you not a muscle head. Get yourself a couple of 14" dumb bell handles to go with and you've got a good set to work with.

Mid grade set

I purchased this weight set to use with my Marcy bench press and leg press that has a standard (1" hole) bar. This weight set comes with a three piece bar. I was shorted a five pound plate. Instead of going through the hassle of returning the whole weight set, it's worth just buying another five pound weight for $7. 

The spin locks work good on the threads, but the rubber washer is not glued onto the spin lock. The three piece bar goes together easy with roll pins, but the circumference of the bar itself is small. If you have big hands like I do, you will find it uncomfortable lifting over 50 pounds of weight on the bar. I bought a solid bar that is bigger around.

I gave four out of five stars on this purchase because of the things listed above. The plate weights are worth the price versus buying them individually for sure. The 37.5" bar (from collar to collar) wasn't a big deal to replace with a solid one. I would recommend this weight set to my family or friends for the price alone. Fast Shipping too.

A Great Price For This Weight Set w/Caveats

The weights are great but the bar is horrid, the pins are almost impossible to get in, i have one about half in and it wont go any further. very frustrating to get together.

As others mentioned some of the holes had to be redrilled because the keys would not fit in the holes. (It was not the case that the holes wouldn't line up).  Once I had issues getting these keys in, I tried the keys individually in each piece and they would still not go in.  The first side I did worked like a champ, but the second side of the bar was a dissappointing process.  CAP quality control is not what it used to be.

Get Your Drill Ready

The WalMart product description is horribly incomplete.

First, the barbell is not a solid bar, but three pieces that are attached using four rolled pins that are hammered through four pre-drilled holes connecting the three sections.

Second, this type barbell has a weight loading limit of only 100 pounds. This was a disappointment.

Third, the plates are nicely finished with a baked on coating (guessing that's what it is), that seems pretty durable.

Fourth, when stacked flat one on another, the plates will slide. I though it was coating, at first, but laying the edge of a metal square across the plates and you'll see light coming under the edge of the straight-edge except for two points along each outside edge of the plate. The plates are concave shaped with little surface contact plate-to-plate.

I'll be buying a solid barbell, but am unlikely to buy CAP plates again.

Inexpensive Starter Set - 100 Lb Weight Limit Bar

The plates are very slippery and dangerous I have had them slip out of my grip.  The bar come in 3 pieces and its not clearly indicated as such.

We bought this set because it included a bar. Sadly, it's too short and it won't fit on the weight bench with lots of weights on it. If you're not using a weight bench then it should be fine.
