This headlamp is an absolute unit for the price point. The ability to adjust the brightness of both the flood and spot light and to be able to use both simultaneously is a bonus. Being able to add an extra battery for even longer use is genius. This is really an awesome light, great job.

Best head light I have ever bought

The Coast RL27R
This is an interesting headlamp. It’s slightly heavier than your normal headlamp but In return you get 1,000 lumens and an impressive 4hrs+ (16hrs on low) run time on spot or flood high and a very nice build quality. The “flood” light on this is like no other light I’ve seen. Instead of just shooting light out on all angles, this is a more directed light with clean edges lighting everything right in front of you in a more targeted beam. If needed, you can switch to spot mode for a longer throw. For maximum light, you can turn both modes on for the full 1,000 lumens. In all of the white light modes, there is a knob to adjust the brightness, which is a nice feature. With other brands, you have to double or triple click buttons to switch between moods- I find this knob to be easier to use with gloves on in comparison to buttons. I would be very interested in seeing the extra battery pack that can be attached to this light to double the run time. That seems to be a great feature for night hikes or other extended activities. A unique feature is the rear red light on the battery pack. A nice feature for biking, walking, or running. When the light is in low mode, it flashes from dim to a brighter setting. This isn’t crazy bright but in the dark, it is easily seen from a distance. Although this is slightly heavier than a typical headlamp, due to the weight being balanced on the front and rear of your head, I did not find it uncomfortable for the hours I wore it around the house doing projects. I would definitely recommend this light to anyone looking for a higher output head lamp with longer run times. This is my new go-to headlamp!

Great High-output headlamp!

I am loving this headlamp. Has all the brightness that I could ever need and being rechargeable helps. Was looking at a milwaukee just before getting this and glad i held out now. Having the spot and flood feature is awesome as well. I work in a machine shop and dont always need the spot function and can change it over very easily even with gloves on.

This thing is a beast

Just got this headlamp in the mail today and I was able to unbox and take it ice fishing and mess with it in the back yard tonight to get some pictures.  Some awesome features including a red light on the back of the headband that has 2 modes, flashing and steady.  The head lamp itself is bright and the beam focus is excellent and plenty bright even on low setting which is good for those extended run times. The brightness on all spot, flood or simultaneous can be adjusted with the dial that’s easy to manipulate with one finger. It is also nice that the light comes on dim and quickly gets brighter so it doesn’t shock your eyes going from dark to bright instantly if in a small space.  I thought that was a nice feature.  It does come with a rechargeable battery and does come with a short cord.  I did see there is an option for an expandable battery pack to increase runtimes as well.  So far after using this light without charging it right out of the box I’m very impressed with the looks, how it feels and the function of it. And for the price point it’s a very capable headlamp without a lot of extra bulk.

First impressions are good.

Great headlight! most critically, the ability to turn on and off the red light to preserve night vision. Nice, grippy, headband so it stays put. Rechargeable battery on back of band (with  red/flashing light) helps it feel balanced on my head. Independent buttons for spot and flood modes makes for intuitive operation. Only drawback- it's a little on the heavy side.

Critical features!

This light was sent to me by Coast for testing. This headlamp is an interesting concept that has potential for many applications. That said, there are limitations to this light as well. The quality of the product seems pretty good overall. 
     First, let’s talk about the light. This headlamp offers plenty of features that add to its’ usability. There are dedicated button options for the spot and flood light and the middle button is for the red and green lights. The back red light just has one button. You can have the flood and spot light on at the same time and you can also control the brightness by using a dial. The light and backlight are removable from the headband which is nice. The headband has two silicone bands that are on the inside of the headband to prevent movement. There is a battery that can be purchased separately to attach to the back of the light. That attachment has a red light and side light feature. 
     Next, I will be discussing some of the cons of this product. First up, the comfort could be better. There are foam pads on the front and back units which don’t offer much comfort. For short use this is fine but for long use, wearing the product without a hat becomes uncomfortable. To avoid having the light slowly falling down, you have to tighten the headband pretty tightly to avoid that which adds to the discomfort. I think that an additional silicone ring might help mitigate this from happening. I don’t see the extra battery attachment being feasible because the back is already weighted from housing the battery. Adding additional weight will only cause further discomfort with regard to the light sliding down. Now if they included an overhead band to support the weight, I would consider buying that battery attachment. The last gripe that I have is the brightness adjustment wheel. While it does have trimmed notches for grip, it is still somewhat slick especially with gloves on.
     Overall, this light seems to be well made and I have not had any functional issues with it. I would say that this light is good for short uses like walking your dog, working on your car, adding it to your emergency kits for home and vehicles and much more.

Not bad, but could use improvements.

All 3 purchased have completely disintegrated and are no longer stackable to the headbands, the plastic just crumbled at attachment areas
