Reduced mixing time to under 3 minutes. Much much easier than using a tub for small jobs where you need just one concrete bag at a time. Definitely recommend for small home jobs.

I love this concept.   Seems the company that manufactured the bag is no longer importing these from Australia.  I found one available at a Walmart.

Great concept.

I just used one of these for a small project. I wanted to make a concrete block with a PVC pipe in the center to use for a home-made patio umbrella stand so I bought an 80lb. bag of Quikrete concrete mix (#1101) and NewLook Fade Resistant Cement Color in "Dark Brown" to mix into it. Lowe's did not carry or sell 40lb bags and I only needed about 65-70 lbs. of the concrete mix and did not want to have to concern myself with how to dispose of the leftover mixed concrete, since I live in an apartment and would have to utilize the dumpster there for disposal.

I've never worked with concrete before and wanted to minimize difficulty or mess with the project so I laid down a large tarp that I had to protect my patio before trying to mix the concrete. This mixing bag was made from a thick type of plastic. I set the bag of concrete mix into the mixing bag like they instruct, cut the concrete bag with a knife and carefully poured out the contents of the concrete mix bag into this mixing bag. It wasn't too windy but the concrete dust is very fine and I was glad the mixing bag contained it well. Once the dust settled, I poured in the powdered concrete dye, then sealed the bag with the included velcro strap and proceeded to jostle the bag back and forth to mix the powered dye into the powdered concrete mix.

The bag is not really sized to mix 80 lbs of concrete and would honestly be more appropriate for 40-50lbs at a time. However, I didn't want to risk that I would not evenly divide the dry concrete mix or powered dye to mix up two batches separately so I tried doing it all at once. That would have been much easier if this bag was larger to allow you to have more room for swinging the bag back and forth to mix the concrete or kneading the bag to help mix it thoroughly. I had no one to help me do this so I had to do it all by myself. This amount of concrete is a heavy amount to do by yourself. Once I was satisfied that the dye was mixed into the concrete rather well, I then opened the bag and added the water (the amount they recommended on the instructions for an "ideal" level of moisture for the concrete), then re-sealed the bag. Mixing the concrete mix with the water was even more difficult. As the bag was not large enough, I had little room inside of it to maneuver the contents to get it mixed thoroughly (I deducted a point from the rating because this bag was not adequately-sized to mix 80 lbs of concrete).

Also the bag is not tall enough to give you enough room to twist the bag and secure it with the tie and still have room enough to grip the tied end without the tie accidentally slipping off in your hands. I did not want to spill the concrete mix (my landlord would not have appreciated that and I would not prefer to be cleaning up that mess). If the bag had been taller there would have been adequate length to give you more to grip onto while sloshing the bag back and forth. In future, I hope they offer these bags in a size that would be ideal for mixing 80 lbs. at once. While 80 lbs of concrete is certainly very heavy it is not actually a large amount. You'd definitely need to mix several bags if you were making pavers for your garden, for example, or pouring a small patio. That amount was enough to make my umbrella stand with some leftover. The stand was made with a home-made wood mould measuring 12 inches square by 6.5 inches deep. It took me about 1.5 hours to mix the concrete with the dye, then with water, scoop in into the mould, bang the mould with a rubber mallet to remove air bubbles and get the concrete settle level, then clean up the mess (not too much mess). There was about ten pounds of concrete mix leftover so I had to throw away the bag, as I didn't know how I'd remove it from the bag or rinse it out (there are no hose hookups at my apartment and I didn't think I should try rinsing out the bag indoors).

It was definitely some amount of effort to do the mixing all by myself (I'm a woman and not very strong). If your project would require more than 80 lbs. of concrete, I would definitely suggest you get someone to help with the mixing and do it in smaller batches if you want to use these bags or else rent a small concrete mixer from Home Depot.

TLDR: The is bag is sized best for mixing 40-50 lbs. of concrete at a time. Mixing as much as 80 lbs. is rather more difficult as these bags are not large enough for that. Also the velcro tie could have been made from more "heavy duty" velcro so it would stay tighter. Otherwise the bags do work as advertised and the mixing was done with a minimum of mess and hassle.
