I have been eyeing this kit up for a month or so and decided the time was right to get it and build it. Definitely not one that would be hanging out in my stash for a while, in fact it probably only had to wait a fortnight until work pressures eased so I could build again.

First off, I expected these to be rigid models when completed but they are pretty well articulated which allows them to be posed a little bit on your display. Also the models look much better in person than they do on the pack art - always a bonus. My favourite is the Pteranadon although Lego Sapiens always gives me a chuckle.

You would think that a set like this would have no stickers. Well, you would be wrong. Sadly all the name plates are created via stickers which was a bit of a downer but I got over myself and attached them.

Surprisingly large when completed they are definitely a statement piece. I knwo that the images show dimensions but until you have them built you don't realise how impressive they look. Just keep them out of sunlight unless you want a weathered look to your bony builds.

We bought these at the start of the UK lockdown for our dinosaur mad 5 year old and to please the archaeologist in me. Build time was estimated as he took an hour here and there over the last few months to put them together. The full set really is something to behold! He loves it! The addition of the minifigures is a nice little touch.
As a play experience, sure he can't play with them afterwards but he really likes having them up in his room. Instructions are easy to follow although little hands came in quite handy when putting it together, I found some bits tricky to secure (my only use when it comes to building), but then he's a better builder than I am anyway! Would absolutely recommend this set, even if you have a younger builder, as long as you are happy with them having the smaller pieces and you both have some patience!

Stunning Builds!

This is definitely in the top 5 Ideas set released to date. It is very well designed. The detailing is amazing. It has virtually no repetition. The biggest flaw is that the T-Rex's head doesn't stay up. But, overall, it was so much fun to build. It's definitely recommended for any Lego or dinosaur lover.

Amazing set! So much fun to build!

The product includes three dinosaur fossils, two Minifigures and one small kit. The only problem is that almost all the bricks are white, which may cause some difficulties in finding bricks. Overall, 4.5 points in my mind.

Fantastic dinosaurs

These were awesome to build, absolutely fun to play with (if you choose to), and fab for display. They were a conversation starter, including with the post-people who managed to glimpse at them while delivering the posts. 

I've yet to see anything Lego dinosaur-y as good as this one.

Wow, awesome stuff!

The absentee mood of Christmas and the advertising blitz I had been bombarded with for days culminated in me dropping 600 dollars on Legos on boxing day, because that is what is good for mental health, treating yaself. 

It had been years since I had bought a Lego, only 2 modular buildings back in 2013, the Cinema and the Parisian Restaurant, but a good decade since my childhood Lego obsession. Back then, it was a crazy consistent stream of Lego toys; Power Miners, Bionicle, Agents, Atlantis, Knights Kingdom, that brief shining year when Dino Attack came out and my mind exploded when I had awesome Lego dinosaurs which still have yet to be matched in size, and inevitably Star Wars. 

With a pent up need to spend that cash money, I funneled that desire into Lego sets, deciding upon 3, this one being one of them. The dinosaurs themselves look quite impressive once completed, their tails and heads are adjustable, and the T-Rex's tiny arms too. It's quite interesting to see the merging of Bionicle joint elements with bricks. The T-Rex also looks the best of the 3, the Pterodactyl getting the short straw on the impressive factor for sure. 

While there's some particularly clever uses of bricks in this, it wasn't ever challenging, more my inebriation being a challenge than the instructions. With the conclusion of building this though, I am eager to build my other 2 far larger and more nuanced sets, with a lot more flare and play factor I suppose. Not that I play with Legos, I just display them and spray the Air in a bottle stuff on them to blow the dust away.

Of course, once the next 2 sets are built, and there being a brand new Lego store less than 5 minutes drive away from me, it wouldn't be doubtful of the next impulse purchase being a modular building, or whatever might be in stock. 

Next build is also the Bookshop, a modular building and a legitimate impulse purchase cause it was the only building left when I was there. This is why being an adult is great cause my impulse purchase is more expensive than my planned one.

Impulse buying may have reawakened something

Bought this for my 7yrs old son. This was is first proper Lego set and I am so glad I did buy it. We used it as 30min a day activity time before Bed and after school reading. It worked like a magic! He could follow the instructions really well, had no difficulty putting all three together. No complain... He is so excited for his next Lego set... He thinks he is going to get Star Wars exclusive set for Christmas! Lol. 

I hope there are more 3 in 1 sets in the future. I recommend anyone who who wants to get into Lego.. start here!

Amazing Set! Crazy Lego Son (7yrs old) loves it

This is the most amazing set we have from Lego. We are currently learning about dinosaurs and purchased the Lego Fossils as part of our studies. Our 7 year old has built the set on his own and has enjoyed it very much. The attention to detail is fantastic and the models look great on their display stands. The heads and tails move realistically and T-Rex's jaw drops!

Beautiful addition to our dinosaur project

This is a fantastic display set that many of my visitors at first have not realised was made from Lego.
It was enjoyable to build but did have a few fiddly sections.
I was certainly glad to purchase this set after being impressed by it when it was announced.

Everything is R-Awesome

As a (former) palaeontologist, this set was a very welcome present. And for sure, the models do look very good, and the design work is extremely clever. When you build the models, there are those lovely moments when you suddenly see what the designer had in mind, after being mystified for the past few steps what on Earth you were building.

So why not a five-star rating? Primarily because the builds just aren't robust. I expect an official LEGO set to be solid enough I can pick it up without it disintegrating, but that isn't the case here.

The pterodactyl is fine, and removed from its stand, perfectly swooshable. But the triceratops and the tyrannosaur are very fragile, especially the triceratops. There is almost no way to pick the triceratops up except by the stand that doesn't result in some part of it being dislodged. There are many sections literally held on with a single stud, and it doesn't make for these to break off. The tyrannosaur is marginally better, but still very delicate.

So while you do create models that look good, the two main models are very much look-but-don't-touch, which just doesn't seem right with LEGO.

After a few days, I broke the models up and put them into ziplock bags for storage, something I did with a vague sense of disappointment. Indeed, of all the Ideas sets I have, this is probably the first one that hasn't left me thinking 'wow, that was an amazing build!'. Instead, I'm impressed with the art, but not with the engineering.

Doesn't quite hit the spot
