Indoor Use Warning for Gas-Fueled Appliances

The smoker cooks fine but the tempature rises about 10 degres more than what I set it on and the can't get the wfii to work my phone does not have 13 ops it just has 12.8. I like the smoke range I can put on the smoke form 1 to 10 my wife only likes me to put it on 1 and that puts good smoke to the meat. I put the tempature on 215 when I want to cook my meat at 225 and it works fine so I just subtract 10 from what I want to cook on.

Camp Chef really knocked this one out of the park. A good strong construction and the manuel to assemble was very easy to read. This will hold alot of food. I haven't been a fan of P.I.D. controllers until now. P.I.D. controllers are normally so efficient at holding correct temps that they put out very little smoke. Camp chef thought of that and incorporared a smoke level setting that you can adjust according to how much smoke you want. Higher the smoke setting the more radical your temps swings will be. Great smoke output, the temperature swings are very minimal compared to other pellet smokers I have used. Using the smoker for the past few months I have pretty much only used the low smoke and high smoke settings. The low smoke is perfect for jerky staying at Temps between 180 and 150 depending on the weather and how much the vent on the side is open. I find having the vent closed as far as it will go keeps the low smoke at a steady pace. The high smoke has made really good pork loin and pork butts. I even used the smoker to reverse sear some steaks smoking them in the smoker and searing on the grill. The ash cleanout is a big plus as you dont have to vacuum it out after every cook just pull the lever on the side and the ashes fall out. I am very pleased with this smoker and I like it so much I am considering selling my pellet grill and getting my hands on one of those woodwind pellet grills. The trays are of good construction and are easy to clean. The Camp Chef app is awesome as I can go into town and do whatever I need to and the app still shows what temp your smoker or temp probes are at. Overall I am very pleased with the XXL and I believe if you are looking for a vertical the XXL should be your top pick.

It Was Worth The Wait!

This smoker was so easy to use. No bending over to fill the wood chunks and having to keep a watch over it. We like the ability to set temp and smoke level 1-10. The app on your phone makes it so easy to adjust temp and smoke level. Great Smoker! We'll be using for years to come, very happy with our purchase. 5 Stars!!!

The Smokn Beast

Only used it twice now so still in the learning steps.
Lot different than the old propane wood chunk smoker I have used in the past. Warms up fast and is ready to cook a bit faster than the old one.
Did some ribs and I think they cooked too fast, will have to drop temp way back from what I have done in the past.  Doing some jerky as I write this, real low heat and getting good smoke, looks good so far,  I might be getting a grip on this thing.
This is for Camp chef,
Something I would like to see and be capable of doing is check if I have it in low smoke or high smoke while running, and be able to change if needed. I can see the numbers 1-10 and change those. I think this could be added with a software update maybe. 
The WiFi is nice, I can check temperatures from in the house. Notifications on temperature of the probes are convenient.
Overall I like it and with more usage I'm sure I'll like better.

First impressions of XXL vertical smoker.

Great product.  Arived on time and was easily assembled.  Very pleased with the performance of the smoker.  I have used it once so far and it was a breeze to operated with outstanding results.

Great Product!

Positives:
It's nice to put meats on the racks inside and then bring them out to slide into the smoker. 
Very convenient when putting different cuts in at different times. 

It holds temps very nicely. 

The construction is rock solid with only one leg screw that wouldn't go in correctly, but the other two screws will keep it stable.

XXL Takeaways so far

I would not suggest purchasing this smoker and will be beginning the process of returning it after some consideration last night.

First the Good: The Craftsmanship of the unit is terrific. it is solidly made with plenty of racks and features.  It looks beautiful, and is much larger than I thought. 

Now the Bad:  The controller unit itself which is essentially everything in a pellet grill has major flaws.  Let's start with the non smart issues (wifi/bluetooth features).  

Upon setup I followed Manufacturer's recommendation of doing a Burn in on the unit at 350 to burn off any oils. While doing this the unit got so hot that it actually flaked the paint off of the front of the lower part of the grill where the firebox is (see Pictures below) I should have taken this as a sign of bad things to come. 
 
When starting the device and setting it at High Smoke ( which is  220 Smoke 3) The grill will actually take over an hour to actually reach that temp blowing thru about 2-3lbs of pellets in the process and reaching temps of up to 300 degrees in the process. On top of this, even when it does eventually get down to temp, it will sporadically spike as high as 30 degrees higher. This is not so much of a big issue so long as the temp comes back down but I have found this to not be the case. This makes this unit not a set it and forget it type of smoker and ruined an $70 15lb brisket cooking thru the night in the process. 

As for Smart Features, The controller and its wifi/bluetooth capability is horrendous likely due to the the cheap wifi antenna that is on the back of the controller placed inside the metal container which limits its signal distance. The App it connects to is equally as bad on both apple and android (which I tested and tried to use both) No matter how hard I tried I could not get the thing to connect via wifi consistently unless I was connected to a hotspot on my phone with phone sitting on top of the hopper lid which is very impractical. It is not a home wifi signal issue as I am connected on my phone (google Pixel 4) standing next to the grill with full bars. 

To be fair to Camp chef has been very responsive to these issues, and I received a warranted replacement controller to find that the issue is actually worse with the new controller including the temp issues. I could live with the wifi/bluetooth problems until they figure out a solution, but I fear this is a systemic issue with this specific controller, or something with their cloud backend that is affecting all of the wifi controllers which scares me. As much as I wanted this to be my smoker,  I will be looking into my options for a refund as I am not happy at all with this smoker outside of it's beautiful exterior appearance and this product is something I would consider the quality I would expect from a normally great brand .

ALOT of problems. Temps wildly inconsistant

I bought this smoker because I was looking for a good vertical smoker, there are many great horizontal smokers out there but not vertical, I was also looking for quality and substantial size, this smoker has it all. Starting from the 4 swivel bearing castor wheels, which make it very easy to maneuver, the easy to fill side hopper, stainless steel drip tray which is easy to clean and pitched to a trough that drains into a bucket,which then is very easy to dump. The fact that you don't have a water tray inside to deal with makes it like the smokers in most all bbq smokehouse's, you don't need the water if you cook it correctly, and with 2 meat probes to check your temperature you will do that, and the fact it's WiFi and you can be in your house watching,controlling the smoker while watching your favorite sports or out of the weather is the added bonus. There's no glass door that you have to clean all the time ,which I think is a gimmick, all in all a GREAT versatile smoker!

Vertical smoker

Horrible quality. Cheaply made. No insulation in the box. Cover for the nut on handle looks like someone cut an oval piece of electrical tape and stuck it on the round hole. That's a small thing but tells about the quality of construction. 
Controller screen is almost impossible to read unless you are on your knees and hold hand up to shade it. 
After assembly I tried to do the burn in at 350 deg as suggested. Could not get it to go below 420 with either app or controller. Called Camp Chef and was told my controller was bad and would get another. After 2 weeks I called and they said it was lost in the mail and would overnight me another one. Got it installed and tried to smoke chicken at 250 degrees. Whatever temp I chose it was 50-80 degrees too hot. (smoke setting 2 should give more accurate temp)  Dialed back to 190 and it held pretty well. WIFI keeps disconnecting.(Strong signal outdoors with mesh system) Controller says it recognizes my network but the only way to get it to reconnect to app is to shut off controller and restart. Then you have to go through start up again (bypass?) FAQ's online are not helpful. 
Bluetooth on phone app is pretty good but will not reach in my house so I bought this because it had WIFI. 
Wish I had my offset stick smoker back.

Horrible

I recently got the xxl wifi vertical and it has been great as a smoker, no complaints with the performance. The reason i'm giving it two stars is the poor construction quality. Upon my initial burn, the paint peeled in three different places. I reached out to Camp Chef because one of the reasons I bought this was the great warranty I'd heard about and the quality of customer service. Unfortunately, Camp Chef told me to sand it and paint it with high temp bbq paint. Well, if I bought a car and as soon as I drove it off the lot the paint fell off because of nothing that I did, I'd expect more from the dealer than to say sand it and paint it yourself. These smokers aren't cheap and I just expected more.

Love the smoker, but the build quality is poor
