Inspired by the medieval fortress in southern France of the same name, Carcassonne from Asmodee and Z-Man Games is a tile-laying game in which players fill in the countryside around the fortified city.The southern French city of Carcassonne is famous for its unique roman and medieval fortifications. The players develop the area around Carcassonne and deploy their followers on the roads, in the cities, in the cloisters, and in the fields. My husband and I have been playing Carcassone with friends for several years, and had only been able to find the game online, or in speciality game shops. I was excited when I saw Walmart was selling it. Once our kids turn 10 years old, we allow them to play with the family. Our kids are now 16, 13, and 10, and look forward to game days when we can play.

The game is not a traditional "board game". It has tiles that you place each turn, so you "build" the board as you go. Once you learn the game, you can choose to play a "friendly" game, where everyone helps each other with the luck of the tile draw, or it can be vicious, for those who enjoy challenging and strategic games. All together a fun game for all.

We have played this game several times so far and have really enjoyed it so far. The strategy that seems to have worked best so far is whomever can complete the largest city with one or more of their soldiers in it seems to win. That being said, quite a large number of points have also come from farmers as well. Definitely a game that has strategy and luck involved.

Enjoyable game

Love this game- you can play with 2 and it works well, or add more players for more competition. The game play changes quite a lot depending on whether you decide to help other players to gain points, or play your own strategy.

Fast set up- very easy rules. Great game.

Comes with the River expansion which is a nice addition.

Played this game with some friends and couldn't wait until our copy arrived. Fun game to play with a group or just for two. Not to difficult to understand.

My husband usually always wins any strategy game. But this game,you make the board as you go,maybe a city doesn't get finished. It's fun all the way thru and anyone can win. Also it can be played with just 2 people and it's just as fun.

Carcassonne is a fun game that works with two people, but is more fun with three or more. Game play can vary a lot based on your strategy and also based on how you want to treat the other players. You can be cooperative and try to complete cities/roads/etc., or you can be sneaky and make it hard for your opponent to complete their structures. The instruction manual is really clear and includes examples that address the various scenarios you will encounter. It is definitely a more relaxed games...not quick or fast paced, but great while chatting and having a drink or two.

Great game that can go many ways!

This is a fun game that our family enjoys playing together. The site to store delivery arrived a couple of days early which was an added bonus.

I love this game! I am a big fan of strategy games, but there aren't many that are as much fun with 2 players as with 3-4 players. This game is addictive. It's a little different every time you play it. It is a fairly simple (the scoring can be a little confusing), yet brilliant game. I would highly recommend it.
