This set is a great price for such a nice set. The board and all of the pieces are wood, gives it a handmade feel. The game board folds nicely and hold all of the pieces inside. So nice to not have an extra box to worry about for storage. We're going to purchase a couple for gifts for the grandparents because we like the set so much.

Bought this set as a Christmas gift for our 9 ys old granddaughter. She loves it and has developed her skills well and her dad, sister love playing chess with her.

I like this game

Very good quality

I like the chess pieces. The hinges on the board will scrape your table. The black and white squares are painted 90 degrees off to the way a chess board is supposed to sit. All wood is a nice touch, and it's probably okay for backgammon.

Some annoying errors

The pieces look poor quality, not resemblant the image of the box.

The wooden case was a good weight, but the set was missing a game piece so I returned.

Missing piece

There were no pieces for chess.  It appeared that the game had been opened and perhaps even used.  Very disappointing as I had to go elsewhere and buy another one.  I will be returning the game this week.

Game was missing parts

Like everyone else, the family got excited to play chess after watching The Queen's Gambit, lol.  Bought this for Christmas but it's practically unusable for chess.

The other reviewer with a picture has it set up incorrectly; the seam of the folding board actually goes the other direction when set up properly (i.e. between the king and queen on each side).  The hinges are very poor quality and the two sections of the board do not line up properly height-wise, so the playing surface isn't flat/level.  Thought I could easily fix that, but also the rounded part of the hinge faces downwards, meaning  there's a bump where the hinge is on the bottom of the board.  Therefore when playing chess, that bump is against the table and pushes the board up in the middle a couple millimeters where the seam is, and each side of the board is essentially sloping down slightly, away from the seam.  Thought I could put some feet on the bottom corners to fix that, but then the magnetic closures wouldn't make contact when folding up the board.

Don't know how that slipped past the designers, expected more from a Canadian-owned company...

TERRIBLE for chess.
