The wood is top quality white wash: no veneer (much better than I thought it would be).  Only some minor assembly/use issues.
(1) The 4 wood screws you need to put in under the seat (step 3 instructions) don't have clearance to use a "real" screwdriver (a small 3-inch was recommended in the  instructions which is probably not in most toolboxes).  This would have been much better if these 4 holes were preset like the other 14.
(2) The chair latch and hook (step 8) did not align and the very first time I tried to close it, the tip of the hook broke off.  I had to bend the hook a bit to align it and its still hard to drop into the latch.
(3) I added pads to the bottom of the legs to keep it from scratching my hardwood floor.
