Ease Of Assembly

Oh no! 
This was my first reaction as I took the items out of the box because I noticed the pieces had NO labels. Then I relaxed and just visualized how the shelf is supposed to look and went from there. I was excited to see no advanced tools were required. I only used what they supplied and a small screwdriver. Easy to assemble and I am not a handy woman. This shelf is GORGEOUS! I absolutely Love it and I am going to buy a second one.

Arrived quickly and easy to put together. This is a lightweight shelf but still substantial enough to not look cheap. It has a great finish and looks really nice.

Love this ladder espresso bookcase

easy to assemble, my 12 year old did it by himself.  Good quality

If you are buying this to be in your living room, you probably want to pass this up. Lots of issues. My first questionable item concerns the side pieces. They are shipped in 2 parts for each side as you would expect. The connection points are maybe 3/8 inch pins to align the upper and lower section, which is then held together by a short metal strap screwed to the back. That is all that holds the top and bottom together. A longer pin would be more reassuring. The finish comes up short. The stain is uneven on close inspection. The wood has lots of dings and scratches, and some places look as if there was no sanding what so ever. The shelves are attached with 1 1/2 inch screws which is a good point. I wish the allen wrench that was provided was longer to give more torque to get the screws snug. Wooden plugs are provided to cover the screws. Some of the holes for the heads of the screws are drilled too deep so the plugs end up below the surface.
The final issue after assembly is that unit does lean against the wall at the top. I assume that is normal for ladder bookcases, but I am sure there are wives out there who would scream at their walls being marred by the furniture. This needs plastic bumpers are the top to prevent scuffing the wall. I have included pictures of the finish and touching the wall.
I am not returning the item as I am not using it where I want something really nice like the living room. It serves the purpose. But even at the price, these issues demonstrate a lack of quality.

Not for the tzotchkes in the living room

Every mounting hole was not drilled correctly. Very frustrating in assembly and ended up splitting one shelf and am trying to repair now. Will never purchase this product again
