I just went skiing in my new Tamarack Shell, and it had all of the features that I was looking for. It is well made, great fit, great style, great features.

I am definitely glad I got this jacket, but I do have a complaint about the fit/sizing. As a bigger, hourglass shaped woman, I had to size up to an XL, where I could probably have done a large. It is a long-ish in the arms, and if I gain any weight in my behind it'll be a little tight back there. Otherwise, it's great for outdoor snow weather. Just keep in mind it's a shell, not a full coat, so layer up!

Good Outer Shell Jacket

This jacket worked well during a Colorado resort ski trip and got compliments. It is very well made, and rolls up reasonably small enough to fit in a daypack for backcountry use. It weighs approx. 1 lb., 10 oz., according to my kitchen scale. The turquoise color is bright, but not obnoxious. The hood is very adjustable (I don't know if it is helmet-compatible). The hood brim is wide and stiff enough to help keep snow out of your face. The cut of the sleeves provides good range of motion. However, this jacket is fitted at the hips; so if you plan to wear an insulated layer under it with gear in your pockets; or climb hills, or do telemark turns, you might want a larger size.

Well made and attractive jacket

I owned the precursor to this jacket for many years and wore it out. I use it as my basic mid-winter ski jacket. It's a bit warmer than a comparable 3-layer jacket. The fit is shaped and attractive. The hood is excellent. Pockets are adequate but not large enough for today's bigger skins. I never use the zip-in fleece feature, and I wish the powder skirt was detachable because I never use it, but these are relatively minor quibbles. I cut the powder skirt out of my old jacket, and may do the same on this one.
