A quick read that draws you in, and then you don't want to let go.
I loved Emily, the author gives us such a sweet little girl, and she loves her Mom. Then we have Anna a teenager and how welcoming she is of an eight-year-old, and how she goes about helping her.
We are given a little bit of sweet romance, crime, new beginnings, and all things Christmas, and all wrapped up in a page-turning read.
Only problem I had was I wanted more!

A Very Christmas Town

Krista Galloway grew up in many foster homes, she is now a single parent of a eight year old daughter, Emily. They move from Phoenix to Winter Hill, Washington where Krista has a new job as city manager. The small town is famous for its Christmasville celebration, something Krista doesn't enjoy. However Emily loves Christmas and is expecting a miracle. 
 
I liked how Melody drew out the characters. I could guess how the story would end but it was fun seeing how Melody got there. This book makes me look forward to the Christmas season.

Christmas Miracle

I had a chance to read my first book by Melody Carlson, called Christmas In Winter Hill. This is a charming story of Krista and her daughter Emily moving to the small town of Winter Hill. But what is up with Christmasville? Does that town sponsor it? Will Krista, who is not a fan of Christmas, be responsible to help out due to her new position working for the city?

Christmas In Winter Hill is a sweet, Hallmark like Christmas story. I would liken this to a Hallmark movie in book form. If you are looking for an enjoyable story to snuggle up and ready, Christmas in Winter Hill is an excellent choice.  It is a quick read and beautiful story.

Sweet Story

Christmas in Winter Hill by Melody Carlson
Oh my, such a sweet Christmas story about small town living. This book inspires us to enjoy Christmas, family and our community. Melody Carlson did a fantastic job of brining this story to life. The characters are well developed and the story line is believable. It is full of hope, love and encouragement. I came away looking forward to the Christmas season and time spent with family. I give Christmas in Winter Hill 5 stars. It's all about the magical season, celebration and fellowship.

Great book

Christmastime is special everywhere but a Christmas spent in Winter Hill is a really big deal! Everyone there loves all of the activities, all of the decorations, and all of the fun and joy associated with the Christmasville celebration. Everyone, that is, until Krista Galloway is hired as the new city manager! 
Melody Carlson is known for creating wonderful Christmas stories and she has succeeded once again with this new book. She made me want to visit this small town in Washington to experience the holidays during the Christmasville celebration. This year Winter Hill has a mayor who loves playing Santa Claus--a celebration scheduled to last for days--and an essay contest that will reward the winner with a new home known as the  Christmas House!

Krista does not like Christmas and she has serious reservations about all of this hoopla but how can she refuse? As I learned about the years in foster care when her Christmas Eve birthday and Christmas Day were often overlooked, my mind understood why she disliked the holidays so much but my heart ached for the effect that her unhappy childhood was having on her eight-year-old daughter. Emily wanted and needed a joyful Christmas and the essay that she wrote for the contest almost broke my heart! After explaining why she wanted to win the Christmas House, Emily wrote 'So if I win the Christmas House, I will give it to my mama and it will be her best birthday and best Christmas present ever.' Grab your tissues! 

There is also a mystery and the promise of romance in Christmas in Winter Hill and this is a story that will warm your heart, remind you of the miracles of Christmas, and put you in an early Christmas spirit. It is also a story worthy of being made into a Hallmark movie! I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I recommend it to all who enjoy inspirational holiday stories.

Great Holiday Fiction!

What do you do if you're not a fan of Christmas but take a job in a town that's all about Christmas? Christmasville. The Christmas House. The mayor plays Santa Claus.

That's the situation Krista Galloway finds herself in Melody Carlson's latest holiday offering, “Christmas in Winter Hill.”

When single mom Krista takes a job as city manager for Winter Hill, Washington, she finds herself thrown into the middle of planning the town's Christmasville celebration. A former foster child whose birthday is Christmas Eve, she's always found bad things happen at Christmas time and thus isn't a fan of the holiday. However, her 8-year-old daughter, Emily, loves Christmas and the hope it brings.

As Krista struggles to overcome her poor feelings toward Christmas, the town comes together to overcome trials that threaten to shut down Christmasville. Will she ever learn to love Christmas? And will Krista and Emily find themselves a Christmas miracle?

Carlson offers another delightful Christmas novella filled with romance, feel-good moments and just a little bit of intrigue. As always, the author also does a great job of developing great characters — readers will relate to Krista and her struggles and will fall in love with her adorable daughter. Krista's assistant, Pauline, and her awesome family add greatly to the story.

“Christmas in Winter Hill” also shares several encouraging themes, like troubles make us more empathetic; you can only live one day at a time; dreams can come true; overcoming abandonment; and beating the thought that some dreams are impossible and some hopes too big.

“Christmas in Winter Hill” will definitely get you in the holiday spirit.

A Sweet Holiday Tale

One of my favorite parts of Christmas is reading a new Christmas book by Melody Carlson.  Carlson creates a holiday atmosphere in which the reader is fully immersed in the town's Christmas celebration.  More than that, the characters are people that the reader could expect to meet in any day's comings and goings.  Krista, the main character, has to be tough, both professionally and as a single mother, but she also knows the value of integrity, truthfulness, and compassion.  This was a short book, but one in which the reader can join the town of Winter Hill in their Christmasville celebration.

Lovely Christmas Story

I fell in love with Melody Carlson's Christmas novels a few years ago and I have gobbled up everyone I can find. They are always so enriching, heartwarming, and exactly what I need around the holiday season. 

This book was so amazing. I loved these characters so much. They were easy to relate to and they felt real. I really didn't want to leave Winter Hill. It was the kind of town I wish was real so I could move there.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Christian Fiction and/or Christmas novels.

What's not to love about a Melody Carlson Christmas book any time of the year. Add this one to your must read list for this holiday season or grab an extra for gift giving, as you won't want to miss this one. Emily, the eight year old daughter of Krista will make your heart melt, especially when she tries to win a house for her mom. This story has all the ingredients for a prize winning cake when you take the first mouth watering bite. You can picture all the lights and feel the bite of cold as you are enraptured in the storyline. Of course you have to have a Scrooge that tries to throw a cog in the wheel. Be swept away for a few hours and dream of your favorite Christmas.

Heart Melting

December was right around the corner. And Winter Hill was not a place to shirk from Christmas,” Krista considers in Melody Carson's novel, Christmas in Winter Hill.

~ What ~
This one-hundred-and-seventy-six-page hardbound targets those interested in a romantic Christmas story. With no profanity or too adult situations, topics of Santa Claus may not be appropriate for those who do not believe in the concept. The ending includes the writer's biography with advertisements.

In this quaint holiday read, Krista and her eight-year-old daughter have moved to a small town in Washington where the single parent lands a job as the city manager. Since it is right at the beginning of the Christmas season, the mother dreads the upcoming holiday due to her lonely past while the daughter looks forward to it, even entering into a writing contest. Through newfound friends, especially contractor Conner, Krista not only learns not to be afraid of the holiday, but she finds how loved she is by the community.

~ Why ~
This is a quick read that shows how a small town bands together to celebrate Christmasville. I like how the residents all joined together to work on the project and were forgiving when they were in the wrong.

~ Why Not ~
Those who do not like stories about Christmas that focus on Santa may prefer to avoid this book that never mentions the Real Reason of Christ's birth. Others may get irritated on the Hallmark happily-ever-after story and that prayer is mentioned as fleeting moments.

~ Wish ~
Although I liked the author's writing style, I found the book rather disappointing in that Jesus was mentioned only one time – there was no nativity scene, wise men, shepherds – nothing that related to the basis of Christmas – only made-up, commercialized seasonal topics. When only half of Romans 8:28 is mentioned, the book misses the opportunity to explain that “all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.”

~ Want ~
If you like a cutesy-wootsey Christmas tale with all the right fixings and favorites, this may be for you, but I cannot recommend it due to is total lack of the True Meaning of Christmas.
