Great ingredient for Korean inspired food.

Good product

Gochujang is Korean red pepper paste. It's spicy, but it's not just that. It also has sweetness, and it's a fermented product, so it has this delicious bursting of umami flavour to it. It's not the most healthy thing on the planet (corn syrup), but it's great for adding a bit of heat and complexity to dishes.

I haven't really experimented with it outside of Korean cuisine. But if you're looking for a simple Korean recipe to try with this stuff, try making Bibimbap and putting this on top. Bibimbap is mixed rice (bap = rice, and “bibim” is the sound of mixing) with whatever toppings you want on it, really. Give it a try; it's really good, very flavourful, and a cheap and filling dinner idea. It would work great for feeding some guests as they can choose their toppings (common ones include sautéed spinach with garlic, bulgogi-style meat which you could do with ground beef if you wanted, mushrooms, and a fried egg) and it's all served over rice, which is comparatively very cheap. I also use it for things like kimchi jjigae when I want a little extra depth to the spicy stew.

I've always gone to East Asian grocery stores for this product. It's incredible in marinades.  I wish Wal-Mart would Cary more products for Asian recipes.

Great product

When hot-pepper sauce would overwhelm a dish made with mushrooms or seafood, this is the one to reach for.  I bashed some into thin-sliced pork to make a sort of schnitzel: delicious!  This stuff is thick and flavourful.  Try it!
