I bought this despite some reviews that the smell was overpowering, dried out your hair, and caused it to turn violet.  My hair is white, but started to yellow from the hard water I have.  This shampoo is simply amazing!! The yellow is gone, and cannot tell you how many compliments I have received from strangers on how beautiful my hair is! At first the perfumy odor was a bit strong, but you get used to it, and I really don't mind it at all now...plus, my hair is so silky soft, not dry at all.  I keep it on my hair about 4 minutes and it never turned my hair violet.

Hello, every time I go out and about I get approached by people telling me they love the color of my hair.  I always have to allow at least 10 minutes to talk about my hair to them.    I have gray hair and with the purple shampoo it turns my hair violet.  I am going to have some cards made with the correct name of the shampoo so people will get the correct one.  Love the product.

My mother used it for years, and so have I. Works fabulously on my pre mature grey! About a year ago, I decided to go lavender. My stylist and I didn't want to dye it, so we tried something sneaky first. She put Shimmer Lights on, wrapped my head in plastic and stuffed me under the dryer. 15 minutes later and I was gloriously lavender!  I use my own bottle to wash my hair daily, and it keeps the color until my next appointment. Now technically I'm not supposed to have "funny" colored hair at work.  2 months ago my boss finally noticed... Took her 10 months to see it! I win!!!! I have never received more complements in my entire life, than I do with my lavender hair. Thanks Clairol!!!

Fabulous every time!

I've been using this for years and it works wonders! I've had hairstylists make my hair too orange/yellow and this shampoo really helps take it out. For all the negative reviews saying it changed their hair purple or blue that just means they left it on too long... Yes if you leave this on your hair for over 10 minutes you will see a tint. Just follow the instructions and you will be fine and in love with your hair :)

Amazing product!

I was so surprised to read a bad review on this shampoo (clairol shimmer lights). What I like best is the shine I get with this shampoo. I first used it to try knockout some brassiness in my highlights. I have since used it for my blonde and highlighted styles, but currently using on my medium/dark brown color. Only colors I did not try it on is auburn/red/copper colors for obvious reasons of affecting those particular colors. 
Our walmart began selling the shampoo. 
I didnt find the conditioner to be very conditioning.

I REALLY like this shampoo

I have been using Shimmer Lights for over 20 years.   People frequently comment on my beautiful white/gray hair and ask which Shampoo I use.    Never Blue!   Have been gray since age 15.  Lotza Suds!   Love this product!  Hair feels really clean after shampoo.   Thanks Clairol!

Great Looking Gray/White Hair

My hair dresser used Shimmer Lights shampoo on my hair to tone down the brassiness.  I loved it.  So, I went to the store and bought some for home use.  I also bought the conditioner.  The shampoo is wonderful.  However, the conditioner is horrible!  It in no way restores silkiness or manageability!  My thin fine hair is extremely tangled and frizzy.  I am VERY disappointed in the conditioner.  I guess I will just use my regular conditioner and pitch this large bottle!

If u r using product and notice that ur hair is shedding more, it's the shimmer lights. I didn't link it to my hair shedding at first. But then I remember when I brought it that the clerk told me to only use a tiny amount because it is harsh on the hair. And sadly, I didn't think about it until my hair was already thinner. Now I have to find a product to restore.

Be careful

After shampooing my scalp, ears, mouth and hands tingled for hours, and lightly continued into the next day.  The smell permeated my apartment for hours.  I completely followed directions, however it basically stripped most of my color out.  Even worse is that it changed the texture of my hair so that feels it feels fine and limp.  There was no warning on the bottle to indicate any caution.  I am gratefuel that my hair didn't fall out.
