Solid cedar. I liked that the sides sit on top of the solid bottom, makes it more sturdy. The manufacturer should include a better picture of the lid support bracket installation, it took 3 tries. The color was listed as warm brown but it has a deep /dark cherry red look

Very nice, good value

I like the lid having hinges that hold the lid up when open.  This is oak looking finish outside and cedar looking finish inside, but is presswood.  We had to re-drill the hinge holes because they were in the wrong place.  Overall we are very happy with the purchase and would buy again.

Drilled wrong but great product for the price.

I was able to put this together - by not reading the instructions. They were the pits - had me putting pieces together that didn't belong together.
The lock is the biggest joke of all.  There weren't even any pre drilled holes for the top piece.  I didn't even bother trying as I knew I would never get it in the right place.
The hinges didn't open and close and we knew it was going to pop out of the pressed wood so we didn't use them either.
I would not purchase another one of these.  They looked very pretty in the pictures, but not functional for a locking usable hope chest.
I had purchased a real wood hope chest from a furniture store for my oldest daughter and wanted the same for my youngest, but no one carries these in the stores anymore.
Too bad - this is something that needs to come back in style.

I really did like this chest i had no issues with putting it together but the  directions was hard to understand for me but it did come out really nice the color is darker in person in the picture

I would buy it again

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love the cedar chest, however nowhere in the description of the product did it say that you had to put it together using the flat pieces that came in the box. I was expecting "some assembly required" but instead I got "good luck putting this together".

No, I wouldn't buy it again. Too much hassle to assemble.

Not wood but particle board. Hinge pulled away from back piece can't keep lid on. Only had the product for 3 months
