Bought for off-grid camping. Runs a very small deep cell battery dead in about 8 hours. Overall, keeps lunch cold and works great for road trips. Definitely buy this again. Looked at the ARB coolers and couldnt justify the $800 price tag. Try this out first. Bet you will be happy you did.

As expected, money saver over ARB alternative.

Purchased for my over-the-road trucker husband to use while driving the highways and byways for the country. This cooler will allow him to keep drinks and foods items cool without having to worry about getting ice to keep these items cool. Less hassle and should see a savings with less spoiled food and price of ice.

Great for truckers!

I got this powered ice chest about 5-6 years ago and have used it about 12 times a year, sometimes for a week or more. It finally bit the dust just as I was starting my last trip. I went ahead and threw in some freezer packs since the trip would only take one day and when we reached our destination, I got online and ordered another for site-to-store purchase. I love it! No ice, no mess, just put drinks, snacks, fruit, etc. in and plug it into the cigarette lighter and go. It even comes with an ac-dc converter for use in the house for parties or condos/hotels when traveling. It's light enough for me to lift in and out of our van and carry for a short distance (20 feet) and I am a 65+ female not in particularly good shape.

We are really hard on coolers, as teachers we camp and travel all summer. We bought this cooler to replace one just like it that we had for 6 years. It goes from the vehicle to the campsite/hotel with ease thanks to the power cord adapter. We have never had food spoil even when we camp in the Florida Keys in August. It will keep your food cold. Here is my advice to get the most from your cooler: 1) Plug your cooler in the night before you use it to get it nice and cold. 2) Use a separate drink cooler if you are using it in warm weather and you have kids that are going to be in and out of it often. This will lengthen the life of your cooler and keep it running efficiently. 3) periodically clean the intake vent especially if it is sitting outside for any period of time (ie camping).

Great cooler!

One thing I did not know when I bought it was that the unit will run the entire time it is plugged in. It is not like a normal refrigerator that shuts off when it cools the inside of the unit, this item runs until it is unplugged. We have only owned it for a week and used it for a weekend get away. We brought it into our hotel room and kept it plugged in all the time there as they say you should not leave it running in your car longer than 4 hours as it may drain your battery. We never left it plugged into the car more than 2 hours without restarting the car, and so we never found out if you can go longer than the suggested 4 hour limit with the car shut off. I guess if you have a good battery, you will have to try it out to see if it actually runs the battery down after 4 hours. We did not buy the extended warranty. We never buy extended warranties, so hopefully it will last for a long time.

Like it

I use it mostly for keeping food cold and it works fine. Except I plugged the 2 blue markings together and it went hot. Matched the red to the red and it went cold. Just the opposite of what it should have been. Now that I know that, it will work fine for my purposes.

Saves buying ice.

Item was packed well and ship to store once again exceeded all expectations. However, the product literature stated the cooler would achieve 40 deg below ambient temp. I tested this by placing a single 12oz rm temp bottle of water. the ambient temp was 72 deg (inside house), the target temp was 32deg but after 24 hrs of cooling the lowest temp was only 38deg. The temp dropped from 72 to 50 within 2 hrs but then progressed extremely slowly. Got it the literature states the cooler is not a refrig but I expected better cooling performance. With that said, the unit is constructed very solid and I expect that I'll get many yrs of reliable service.

Great value but lacks promised cooling performance

I'd be just as happy without the shelf because the protrusions that support the shelf limit the size of items that can be placed inside. I expect to use it as a regular cooler rather than on end like a small refrigerator. I left it plugged in outside on a night when the temperature unexpectedly got within about 10 degrees of freezing and some of the contents (potato salad and apples) got slightly frozen.

After reading many reviews about portable electric coolers, the main point I took away was that you need to prechill the cooler and you need the AC adapter to do this because if you leave it plugged in your car for a length of time, you will drain the battery.

So I opted for this model that contained both AC and DC plugs. I plugged the unit in the night before our 9 hour road trip and the morning of our departure, loaded up the frozen baby food and chilled milk. Also put some blue ice inside the unit too. Upon our arrival, the frozen items were still frozen and everything else was nicely chilled. So it worked for the reason we bought it for.

I would recommend using blue ice, as per the instructions, blue ice is OK. I think it helped keep everything close to freezing.

Works As Advertised

My son just started a job as a hot shot transport driver. I knew he was going to need a way to haul some drinks and food items and not have to mess with buying ice then draining off the water as the ice melted. This is perfect. Coleman is a well known name and the fact that this cooler came with the AC adapter is a great value. He plugs it into cigarette lighter while on the road, then he can take in his motel room and plug into wall. Saves him money on food and a lot of motels he stays in don't have the refrigerators in them.
Only downside is it's a little tall to lay flush with his back seat in his crew cab pickup. Not a big inconvenience and he is very happy with this.

Bought this for my son

This cooler seemed to achieve only about a 15 degree temperature differential.
The 12 volt connector failed on the second day.It has a little spring inside to engage the plunger when it's plugged into an outlet and the spring flattened out on it's second insertion.Overall, this product does not perform as advertised.I returned it within four days of my purchase.
