Handle

For $38, best wood handeled "traditional" axe i could find, good weight and length for felling a tree smaller than my thigh and perfect for splitting. The length lets all the weight split like a sledge. Fyi the eye and handle was fitted perfect, no gaps or "hand fitted".

Quality axe

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] There are not alot of solid choices when purchasing a new axe  and after "shopping" a few other brands,  the Collins 4 lb single bit  axe was a good decision. The 35" handle is a really good length for ground work, and the shape and design of the handle was a nice fit. The type of wood used to make the handle is still up for debate as to how long it will hold up, as it was a very "open grain" handle. The weight at 4lbs is just right for slicing through exposed tree roots and low branches. My only real complaint is the steel used to make the head seemed to be on the soft side, when making contact with hard wood the edge was easily deformed and folding over. A good sharpening will be required after every use. Finally, I wrap all my axes with grip tape as I enjoy more of a non slip grip on new wood handles.
