I have always had much success with Cricut removable vinyl in terms of it cutting flawlessly, application and when needed, removal.  I use this with my Explore Air 2 and a mat.  It's perfect!

I find the smart vinyl difficult to work with. It's not as flimsy as the smart cardstock but I'm searching for alternatives. It's too thin and easily tears.
