I bought this for when I just needed to make a few quick cuts or when I didn't want to drag out a bunch extension cords. So far it has worked fantastic and has more power than I expected for a cordless saw. I have no doubt that it will work great for larger projects as well

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Purchased this saw to do my shed project as I didnt want to drag out 250ft of cord.  I read some reviews before purchasing and most people complain about the battery life, which wasnt an issue for me as I have several flexvolt batteries. I have many dewalt products and dewalt tools are always my go to brand.  After purchasing this saw I was very surprised at how light and nibble it was.  It cuts with superior accuracy.  The electric brake adds a nice benefit for safe use.  I was able to complete an entire 10ftx12ft shed on one flexvolt battery.  I would recommend if purchasing this saw to also purchase a flexvolt battery.

The safety switch is Fine, I don't know what that other reviewer is talking about, he said he would not recommend it to a friend because of that? i can pull the trigger with either hand and I am Right handed, it's the easiest safety switch I have ever even had on a any corded or un-corded saw,  This saw is Much better than my old 12 volt Ni cad and absolutely loved that one!    I don't have a lot of gripes about this except that there should be some kind of coupon for a battery in the box, they are so expensive and to get one that works well with this is CRAZY high dollar, the best battery for this is 100 bucks more than the saw.  The reg 20V batteries that came with my dc777 are really inadequate for the circular.  It's really a joke on me, Makes me feel like I could have waited for the saw to come out with a battery included which I am sure they are going to do at which time I will be extra mad. Looks like there might be some after market higher run time batteries for a reasonable price but i have not tried one or heard of any reviews yet. 

  Other thing.  there is a place for a rip fence but there was not one in my box, what  is that all about? It would have been nice to have it included,  Big mistake I think. I thought so much that it was a mistake i looked all over to see if the fence was in the box somewhere and then read the manual to see if it was supposed to be included, it does not say though.  The light on the saw is not deflatable and it would have been very cool of them to put a Lazar guide on this, the light is nice but i'd like to be able to turn it off if i want, same for my drill, it's super annoying that it stays on for a while after you set the tool down. 

  My old style battery Dewalt tools batteries all came with adequate batteries and chargers and those batteries lasted for years BEYOND what i was told they would last, so I got brand new batteries for them when the old ones finally failed at a cost of over 150.00 for the pair. They were Dewalt factory sealed batteries and lasted just over 3 months - seriously. would not hold a charge over night and if i used them right off the charger I could get maybe 30 minutes light use. 5 with my saw.  so I do feel burnt really since I maintained my 12V tools so well and now I cannot use them.

Battery Life, spendy batteries, No Rip fence.

I've had this saw for several months and have found it most capable for a cordless tool, especially when coupled with Dewalt's larger power packs.  HOWEVER, I find engaging the safety switch to enable the trigger to be very difficult, especially with gloves.  Why it was not designed with the switch on top of the handle is beyond me.  Having to reach around the grip to depress the switch laterally is neither convenient nor particularly safe because now your making unnatural hand movements to engage the saw.  Very poor design concept.  I've tried (unsuccessfully) several times to make this comment on Dewalt's home page but have never been able to open the app.  This is the first Dewalt tool that I have had a MAJOR complaint with and have decided to lived with the purchase...but ever time I use it, I find myself swearing at the design.  For this reason, I would not recommend it to a friend.

With one exception, a fine tool

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this saw several months ago as a bare tool and built an entire shed with it and a DeWalt impact driver. Only downfalls of this saw are expensive batteries and I really think a rip fence should come standard along with a case or at least a bag. This saw lasts a long time with a 4ah battery and has plenty of power until the end. The rafter hanger is a plus for hanging the saw out of the way instead of risking it falling of the ladder. Even with the bigger batteries it's not too heavy to handle all day. Blade changes and cutting heights are easily done as well as blade angle. The LED light is a great feature for low light situations. Hands down the best circular saw I have ever owned.

Overall the saw has good power and battery life. It has cut everything I have asked if it was a professional carpenter, but What I don't understand is why they chose to put a safety switch on it that forces you to move you entire grip to activate the saw. The safety they put on the 6 1/2 inch saw is easy to quickly access and start cutting. I HATE THE SAFETY ON THIS ONE! I love most of the DeWalt tools I use, I have 30 of them keeping the same battery for a cordless saw was a priority, but if I was just starting my set of cordless tools, based on this one. I would have gone Milwaukee for the safety switch they went with!

Why such a crappy safety!!

I had high expectations. The saw was light and the adjustments were an improvement over my older DeWALT corded model. It is a bit of a power hog but that was to be expected. I was cutting 1x12 siding and it died after 20 cuts. The 5amp battery was fully charged but it will not start. When I manually turn the blade, it has a gravely sound as if a bearing is bad. It is worthless as all the service centers are over an hour from me and inconvenient. It would cost me a third of the product price for the trip.  I have been very pleased with my 6 other DeWALT products, but this is a BIG DISAPPOINTMENT.

Sole plate is 1/8” off from the blade alignment. I Did not notice for several months, but it became clear something was wrong. There is no adjustment for this and I'm out of the return period, so I'm stuck with it now...

Had saw 1 month, shoe not square to blade out of box, adjusted shoe to square and there is no way to re-zero the bevel index so that the index reads zero when it is actually zero or is accurate at any indexed bevel including the bevel stops.  The bevel stops are not accurate out of box and worse after adjusting shoe to square with blade.  Changing blades has same result.  Saw is useless except to make square cuts with shoe adjusted to +3 degrees on bevel index.  DeWALT fail.
