This is exactly the same OEM trimmer head that came on my DeWalt 40v MAX /XR 990 strong trimmer. I highly recommend it to others.

I bought the DCST970 Trimmer 4/27/2020, yesterday 9/21/2020 i had to replace the string. After a struggle I got it to go through the head and out the other side. It lasted about 5 minutes and the string broke off inside the head and would not feed out. Now I had to pull the head cap off which was no joy instead of just pushing on the clip I had to use two screwdrivers to get it off. Got the string wound again put it back together went back to trimming. Again lasted about 5 minutes only this time only one side broke off inside the head. I was able to finish trimming with one side working.

WHY DIDN'T SOMEONE FROM DEWALT ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT, STUDY THE QUIKE RELEASE DESIGN OF A (STIHL) TRIMMER AUTO FEED HEAD?  YOU WOULD OF HAD A MUCH DIFFERENT SET OF REVIEWS!

TRIMMER HEAD

The trimmer itself is very good. However, the trimmer head is poorly designed. The strings often/always got cut off or damaged during trimming. Design of the trimmer head is supposed to allow releasing or unroll of the rolled strings in the case automatically to keep continous trimming. On every trimming event, the string got cutoff within a few minutes.  I had to open the case, pull the string out and that broke or cut off within next couple minutes. I had to repeat this to 4 times everytime I trimmed my lawn. A proper trimmer string should have smoother surface, does not tangle, and allow automatic unrolling or releasing of the string once it got cutoff without interuption during trimming. I plan to purchse DW01DT995 to give it a try, seems to be a better design by looking at it. Both trimmer head design and Dewalt branded trimmer string surface smoothness should be improved.

Poor product design trimmer head

Cuts the line when it shouldn't, not release line when it should! Should i continue? The spooling of the line is incredible difficult and comes off very easy. This is the worst design made by any Trimmer manufacturer and definitely you wouldn't expect this from such a reputable company like Dewalt. For all the users that got this product and cannot use it, provide a free head replacement with a better design.
For the Dewalt development team, ask them to use this just for 30 minutes with spooling new line and if they are intelligent enough they will come up with a great design.

Terrible in every way

I have a number of DEWALT products and have really enjoyed them. Until this trimmer! It is just awful! The line is very difficult to load then it breaks off inside the head, or just won't feed correctly. If you have any suggestions for me I'm all ears!

DCT920 Horrible head design!

I am a loyal Dewalt power tool user.  I love the trimmer yet the spool/line is a joke.  Come on Dewalt, who engineered this disaster?  Takes forever to reload spool and then constantly breaks off inside head.  It takes a contortionist and lots of luck to reload the spool.  Any chance for an upgrade or is this a lost cause and destined to a garage sale?

Replacing line is an all day event

I thought I was the only one with the problem of having to fix the line due to breakage or having difficulty reloading the line on the spool.  Obviously I'm not the only one.  Obviously If I had known that I was going to have this problem, I would have picked another brand.  Seriously, it's a pain.

Difficult to replace line and get it to work right

I thought I had the perfect trimmer.  Now the string constantly breaks and you have to stop and open it up and pull the string out. I'm leaving this review in hopes that if enough people complain, Dewalt will find a fix for this problem.

String constantly breaks

Love all of my Dewalt tools except but the head design on this product is terrible. When I am able to get the string to loaded the trimmer works great until I try to advance the string then its back to square one.
