I recently got the DWST08300 TOUGHSYSTEM® 2.0 LARGE TOOLBOX to evaluate.  I already had the original DWST8203 ToughSystem® 22 in. large tool box and was interested in what made the new 2.0 version that much different.  

First impression was it was larger, wider than the previous version and it just looks and feels tougher as well.  While the 2.0 is compatible with the original version, the latches on the side that connect the boxes to each other are far better than before.  It is easy to snap them into place as they are spring loaded and unlatch them to take them off.  The box front latches are an improvement as well over the previous version.  They are a two piece latch, not one as before and just look and feel more secure. 

The box does not have the air vent on top of it.  Not that it really needs one.  Nor does it have the hook on the rear of it to attach it to the TOUGHSYSTEM® DS CARRIER.

The box does have a flip up “T” connector on the lid that allows it to connect to two of the DWST08020 TOUGHSYSTEM® 2.0 DEEP COMPACT ORGANIZER on top of it.  These organizers are a great size to take smaller bits and pieces you might need on a job site, like nuts and bolts, screws, as well as PVC and copper tube connectors and elbows.  This organizer is not compatible with the original system.   

Overall great quality and investment to store and protect your tools.  While my original ToughSystem® boxes stay stacked in place at home, this toolbox will ride with me in my service van.

TOUGHSYSTEM® 2.0 Is A Big Improvement

It is very tough and well made. Well worth the competitive price. Locks well to all other Tough System 2 boxes. Recommended. A++

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have been using the Toughsystem for a year now and have loved it.  The interconnect latches are not the easiest to work with. But with the Toughsystem 2.0, DeWalt has fixed that issue by making the interconnect latches auto latching.  It's a very nice feature.  Also, they have maximized the space available in the container compared to the same size box in the original Toughsystem.  (The 2.0 system is compatible with the original Toughsystem which is awesome.) I highly recommend this system to anyone who moves around from one job site to another.

Great Improvements from version 1

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] TOUGHSYSTEM® 2.0 Large Toolbox is the middle sized storage box in the TOUGHSYSTEM® 2.0 collection. This may also be listed as Medium on some retailer sites. 

This 22 inch box offers a great solution for carrying battery powered tools to the job site or around your home. There is ample storage for drills, drivers, saws, multi tools, accessories, batteries, and more. The single storage tray with 4 compartments covers about 1/2 of the overall box opening so you can easily reach in without having to remove a tray. If you prefer the full width tray DeWalt offers them separately in deep (DWST08120) and shallow (DWST08110) options. I was previously using a number of tool bags to carry my 20v system around and this has conveniently collected them all to one container.
 
The box features 2 stout front latches made of metal and plastic components. Don't let the plastic alarm you, the latches clamp down with enough force to keep all the dirt and debris on the outside. The hinge offers a nice feature that will catch as it starts to close helping to avoid accidental closure when you are reaching inside. Side latches allow you to connect to other TOUGHSYSTEM® 2.0 boxes (DWST08165, DWST08400, DWST08165) as well as fold up a latch for connecting the small compartments container (DWST08020). To keep items securely inside the metal ring on the front allows you to add a lock to the box.
 
The price point makes this an excellent choice for professionals and weekend warriors alike. It will offer great job site protection, and ease of use around the house tackling projects. The only downside for this box, and the 2.0 system, is that I would like to see compatibility with DeWalt's other stacking component boxes. They're on a different scale and latching system but some level of connection would be nice to bridge the product lines as I often need both boxes for a task. This is a personal preference and not something that would apply to all consumers.

Really like these storage boxes. First off they work great. Love the seal on lid. They are very strong.Really like the way they connect to each other. Will hold a lot of stuff, not just tools.

Great storage

The cases are very sturdy and lock together easily when stacked. I like the wide handle because it provides a wide area to grip and keeps it balanced when pulling over uneven ground. The large wheels also solid and ease rolling it over bumpy ground. I would have given it 5 stars if it were not for one thing. It is water tight but if any water settles into crevices on the lids (as it did to me when I got caught in a sudden downpour) when opening them the water drains right into the back of the cases onto my tools. If I would have tipped the cases over to drain the lids before opening then the trays inside would have dumped the items in them.  Fix the water pooling on the lids so it doesn't drain into the box when opened and I will gladly give this 5 stars.

Great System

I recently purchased some of the TOUGHSYSTEM 2.0 boxes to use with the TOUGHSYSTEM boxes and carrier that i already own.  the overall quality is what I expect from Dewalt tools, but the large and small boxes i got are missing 1 important feature.  I use the DS carrier not the tower style boxes and the 2.0 does not have the locking latch on the back of the box to be able to lock it to the carrier.  Just for this feature I would rather have the original TOUGHSYSTEM boxes.  Are there any plans to make a add on latch for the 2.0 boxes?

TOUGHSYSTEM 2.0

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It's a tough built tool box with great handle features.  It doesn't fit most DeWalt tools though, which is odd.

It's an ok tool box but only comes with one half length tote?  Why not at least a full length tote or two half length totes?  I see tray inserts available but I bought some and they don't fit well unless you use the tabs but that wastes a lot of space and they're not easy to put in or remove, especially once they're loaded with toolds.  Also, you have to stack them from the bottom, which limits use.  I'd like to see more useful accessories that allow more efficient use of space.  Also, missing is a handle on top.  There's a spot for one, not sure why it wasn't installed or even available optionally.  It's much more convenient to be able to grab it with one hand.  Also, these seem wobbly when stacked.  Seems like there should be something at mid-height and/or at the top to tie it to the dolly handle so make it more rigid.  I haven't had one break loose yet but seems like this could be an annoyance, at best, if not a real safety hazard.

It's a Tool Box

I have all DeWalt tools and tough system including storage racks. Great product EXCEPT the rolling cart box. It has an indented square on top of the lid that pools with water during a rain and when you open the box, all of that water spills into the box getting your supplies wet! Please redesign.
