Hardbodyz aluminum body and side cover provides strength in the form of corrosion and scratch resistance. Lightweight Air Rotor weighs 15 percent less than ordinary rotor designs. Its unique shape reduces unnecessary weight while distributing stress more evenly throughout the rotor for maximum strength. Dynamic Cut aluminum ABS Spool maximized core diameter and reversed taper mean 100 percent useable line. ABS causes less casting friction for longer and easier casting.  Features a smooth 6 + 1 bearing system. The waterproof carbon ATD drag system allows for smooth no-stick performance when the big one takes a run.  Braid line ready spool. The Daiwa BG5000 is an outstanding reel for the money. Extremely smooth retrieve, strong drag system, and a rock-solid all-metal build. Handles saltwater fishing with ease and feels dependable under pressure. Definitely a tough, battle-proven reel that performs well above its price point.

Solid reel. Better than some reels that cost twice as much. This is my second Daiwa BG series reel and I will buy more. Drag is plenty for what we have here surf fishing on the East Coast. Stripers, Bluefish, and everything in between.

best value reel ever

This is a very good quality reel for the money!  However it is a bit heavy for most fishing applications.  Unless you are going for the big ones I would recommend that you purchase a smaller version of the very same Daiwa BG reel for a easier and lighter all day casting, fishing experience.

Very high quality product

I like the size much better than the larger 8000 reel.  It is built like a tank and seen it perform against huge red fish and sharks with no problem. Really will match most surf rods very easily.

Perfect surf casting reel

Great price, fast shipping, and smooooothest reel I own.  Very happy with this purchase.  It's paired with a 7' medium heavy Ugly Stick Tiger rod for large ling cod and halibut.

Diawa BG 5000 is my favorite spinning reel.

I could not be happier with my purchase of this real Ive I could not be happier with my purchase of this reel Ive got a heavy penn rod to put it on . I went with a 30 pound braided Line. I know I couldve line. I know I couldve went heavier Thinking the lighter line would be easier to cast out far

be aware this reel only turns in one direction  also the bail is not self closing when you start reeling in you must close it manually. seems well made but operation js kind of crude.
