I first bought a DeLonghi Pinguino A/C that had a higher cooling capacity AND a higher price. I was very unhappy with it, as it never worked effectively, ever, even after a complete overhaul. I replaced it with this DANBY A/C.
This DANBY A/C has a far higher output, never has broken down, and like "The Little Engine That Could", it just keeps on pumping out, all the cool air that I ever needed. This is the first DANBY appliance, that ever I've owned, and will definitely, not be my last. I should have purchased a DANBY at the beginning, saving a lot of discomfort, grief, and money.

I bought this a little while ago and am VERY VERY happy with my purchase. It works better than my window air conditioner. The one part I love about it is that it's portable and has more stronger power than my other air conditioner. The portable air conditioner is 8500 BTU's & my window air conditioner has 5000 BTU's. So I am loving this product that I have purchased. And would recommend it to anyone.

Awesome product.

It is fairly easy to set up and it definitely cools a room off in no time at all. Having to vent it to go outside is a pain but if you have a handyman around it can be done fairly quick.

in the whole works perfectly except that quite noisy when the compressor is in operation, especially in a room, the 12500btru is much less noisy

Various Functionalities

I bought this unit to replace a (year old) window model. The window model was a 5250 btu ac , and it worked great, it would easily cool the room off too the coldest setting and shut down because it had reached the set temperature. However the unit was in my bedroom which only has one window, so I would not be able to open the window at night.

So I had to buy a portable unit, and I am now able to open the window at night. The only real issue I have with this model is it is a one hose system, so it will never reach the coldest setting and go into a "limp" mode. This is because not only does it exhaust the warm air the unit is producing with the compressor, it is also exhausting a lot of the cooled air it had produced as well.

So in the long run, if you only have one window your going to need a portable ac (if you like to sleep with an open window), try to find one with both an intake air hose and an exhaust hose, that way you aren't blowing out any cold air the unit produces. However if you have two windows and don't mind not being able to use one, you should definitely go with a window unit, they are much quieter and a lot more efficient than a portable ac.

Works well

Always had good luck with Danby products but this portable air conditioner needs a boost to make it work more effectively! In a 350 sq. ft. apartment and the unit on full it is barely lowering the room temperature. One needs to sit in front of the unit then you feel some cooling air blowing on your body! But the room is just a little bit cooler!!

Average Air Conditioner (Portable)

this unit takes an extensive amount of time to cool the bedroom (10x10'x10') to a habitable (75 degrees) temp. but works relatively quietly and eventually succeeds.

The unit is compact but the cooling fan is very weak. If you stand more than 2 feet away you don't feel the cool air. I'm disappointed. I have an older 7500 BTU portable air conditioner and it blows cold air much more forcefully than this model. Not worth the money.

A weak air pump

[Employee of walmartcanada] All portable air conditioners have one fatal flaw. Since they blow the heat out the window they create negative air pressure in the room or apartment. Air has to come in from somewhere. That means it sucks in hot air from outside. So while you are cooling you are bringing more hot air into the room. That wastes electricity. A window air conditioner does not do this if you set it to circulate where it only circulates the air in the room.
