I have 2 Addison faucets. The one in the kitchen started to have problems shutting off.  I bought 2 cartridges advertised as replacements. Not so. Both dripped soon after installing. and they just didn't feel right. So I ordered an OEM Delta part instead. Now that fit and felt right. So far I am happy with it. It cost twice as much as the "replacement" but the money I spent on the non-Delta parts was just a waste.

I have a delta faucet that was purchased about 3 years. I figured it was the cartridge that was giving out because of reviews online on this kitchen faucet model. I sent an email to Delta and got a replacement in a week - all hassle free! Amazing customer service

Fit perfectly

Hello, I have this type of cartridge in my faucet and I have to change it frequently because after a certain water continues to flow when I lower the lever! After a change it works as expected.

Difficult to close the water

I had to replace this cartridge every two years since I bought the faucet. This cartridge is actually built to never run away. The valve is constructed of two ceramic discs that could probably last much longer than the faucet itself. However, there is a design problem that eventually it is not the ceramic discs that will be the source of the failure but rather a plastic or nylon part that wears prematurely inside the cartridge. The lever that rests on this plastic part exerts pressure on a very small surface. This means that the very small surface wears out quickly and makes sure that the ceramic discs can no longer reach the fully closed position. The margin is small before reaching this state. It only takes one usur of 20 mils (0.5 mm) and the valve no longer closes properly. From the moment the valve begins to leak, its condition deteriorates rapidly because it now takes several attempts to close before it can no longer have a leak, it becomes a point of no return. I include photos of the component in question to better illustrate my analysis. I wrote this in order to improve the product. This is a constructive complaint, because the product is not completely bad. This small piece of plastic, however, destroys the valve’s full potential. It would be good to inform Delta R&D, unless they are already aware of the design’s weaknesses.

Design to fail

After 2 years the valve doesn't firmly fit in it's off position. It takes precision to find the position where its is not spilling hot or cold water, but precisely in the sliver of a spot where its closed and not leaking.

I joke with my wife and tell her it's a like a stick shift manual car, and the takes lots of experience to shift into gear (in this case, aligning into the closed position).

Leaks and difficult to close the value

This is the 6th replacement cartridge I have purchased. I just got a replacement from Delta which was replaced in March 2022 and an issue once again. The problem is they just don't turn off when placed in the off position. Have to play with the lever to insure it doesn't leak, drip or stream. It is just my wife and I in the house no kids that are hard on the lever. As I read through the reviews this is a consistent problem that has not improved. I can't believe DELTA brand is pleased with this poor quality part. Product sheet lists lifetime warranty but this part is the critical path item and should last longer than a year. Faucet has been nothing but problems since installed as the touch function has never worked properly either.

Terrible Product

As a 40+ year experienced Mechanic involved in research and development of fighter aircraft, working with engineers - this lack of performance of the basic functions of this valve is completely unacceptable! I have ALL the problems mentioned in these reviews. Yet, my 4th cartridge in 5 years is shipping to me as I write this. The 50587 cartridge has no hope to become RELIABLE! My vast experience in hydraulic systems tells me so! Delta needs to engineer a retrofit kit that replaces the "Diamond" discs system with the old ball and spring seal system. I currently have an old Delta bathroom faucet more than 30 years old. I have replaced only the springs and seals just ONCE in those 30+ years. That is durability - 4 cartridges in 5 years is not! There is no excuse for this problem to linger on for years as it has. Delta MUST do something to correct this, or customer dis-satisfaction will bankrupt them! I am sure that an old ball and seal kit that can fit in the place of this "Diamond" cartridge can be engineered. It should be offered at no cost to any owner of a 50587 cartridge! Delta, you need to get off your laurels and get this done, or my next faucet purchase will NOT be Delta!
