Thank you very much for the statue. It shows that it is important to study evolution even though there are many issues we do not understand at this time. Like Darwin we must be willing to ask the hard questions that don't have easy answers.

***The original name of this incredibly thought-provoking statue/figurine by German sculptor Hugo Rheinhold, first exhibited in 1893, was "Ape with Skull"***Contemplating skulls (as this statue's ape does) as a meditation on mortality has a long history in European culture, perhaps most famously in the graveyard scene of Shakespeare's tragedy play "Hamlet"***Rheinhold's ape (some call the ape a monkey) sits on a stack of books with one book having the title "DARWIN" and another one having the title "EVOLUTION"***The right foot of the ape holds calipers (a symbol of the Scientific Method) to be used to measure the human skull he holds in his right hand***There are obvious parallels of this statue to Rodin's statue "The Thinker"***There are many interpretations of what all this is meant to convey, a characteristic of great art***The original statue was cast in bronze and this statue is cast in faux bronze***This is a good, solid statue***[(W x D x H) inches = (4 x 5 x 7.75) Note: these dimensions are different from what's indicated above; weight (pounds) = 3; made in China].

SHAKESPEARE, DARWIN, & RHODIN IN ONE STATUE

I bought it as a gift. But I should have kept it! The person I gave it to was pleasantly surprised by it, they said they really liked it. IT was a gift they did not get 2 of !!!!

I bought this as a topper for an interoffice trophy that is awarded to one employee every quarter. Needless to say, I was EXTREMELY pleased with the purchase! It was the perfect size for my uses. As for the quality, it is very well cast. I can't see any casting lines that some lower quality casts have, and the marble-esqness. of the skull is a great touch! The one downside was that it was backordered and I didn't get it until mid the month after it was supposed to be available. I didn't worry too much because I know that DT always makes good on their deliveries and sure enough, one day when coming home I was surprised by the package sitting on my porch!

I chose this exclusively art sculpture as a part of the office's décor, and it looks awesome, its beautiful made, very solid and heavy. Well worth the money!!!
