Suction Power

Ease Of Use

I have used this vacuum extensively and aggressively on my boat. It has been a great investment. I'd like to do a write up for Dewalt on the use of this vacuum aboard my boat. I am doing the Great Loop and without this vacuum I would have been sunk! My hope is I could do a write up that you could then use as user feedback. In return I'd like a guarantee of a free replacement once I overuse and this one dies! :)

Best vacuum ever! Saved my boat!

dewalt.com

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love using this to clean my car. It is not the most powerful vacuum, but suction is adequate. I love having the ability to use it corded or cordless. I have also used it to blow up air mattresses and other inflatables. Overall it works great!

Very Convenient

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I recieved this as a gift on Father's Day along with a 4-ah battery. It's the best little vacuum I've ever used. I grab it for any messy project and never have to worry about finding an outlet. I also use this to vacuum my car and the portability beats using a regular household vacuum any day.

The only con I could say is that it's not the most powerful vacuum out there. But I can't say I've seen a cordless vacuum like this that is. In short, if you are looking for a vacuum that will suck your face off better look to one of their larger corded vacs.

Overall I don't know how I'd get a long without this little vac!

Such a useful tool

This is the second one I have bought. This one is for my son. We are both locksmiths and it is great for cleaning up after cutting keys or installing hardware. I really don't understand the complaints some users have about suction. It has very good suction for my application.

Amazing little vacuum cleaner.

I used a similar version of this vacuum at work and found it to be really handy. So I purchased the DCV581H back in December 2018 for spot clean up on small DIY projects. As others have noted it's not the most powerful vacuum I own, but it is adequate and by far the most convenient. I've used it for cleaning up sheet rock dust, sawdust, vacuuming out vehicles and an RV, minor liquid spills and even to clean carpet on the stairs in our house. If the battery goes dead mid job, no problem. Just plug it in. It seems to be a bit more powerful running on 120V AC. It's compatible with inexpensive extension wands and accessories to expand its usefulness. Even after seven years I'm still using the original filter (cleaned it periodically). The capacity is more than adequate for my needs. The canister is easy to empty and easy to clean. My only gripes are that the hose storage leaves a lot to be desired. It comes loose easily during transport leaving the hose flopping around to drag on the floor or get caught on things. Despite that, the original hose did last over 5 years. As previously mentioned suction power could be better. Overall I'm quite happy with it and it's still running strong after seven years of frequent use.

Versatile and Convenient

I have owned this for about 6 months and am pretty disappointed with it. I have never owned a DeWalt item that I was unhappy with...until now. Just not what I would expect from DeWalt. You have to be right on top of what ever you are trying to pick up in order for it to work. Don't bother trying to pick up anything larger than a penny. I am back to using my old shop vac which will pick up anything and more! Wish I could return for something useful.

Great concept, seriously lacks suction!

I've had this for about 2 years now. I wanted to love this thing so bad. In theory it's perfect, it hits all the bullet points. Corded or cordless with my current batteries, perfect size and capacity, nice attachments, etc. It just seriously lacks power. Very disappointed the first time I used it and Ive given it plenty of chances since then thinking I'd learn to like it, still disappointed. It's fine for cleaning up small messes of shavings or sawdust but there are far better options like the small hand held Dewalt 20v vacuum for jobs of that size. I thought it would be perfect for cleaning out vehicles, it just doesn't have the power to pick things from carpet it seems.

Wanted to love it

Dewalt

Just purchased and no where on the box does it say "battery not included". So I assumed it came with one. Live an hour away from store so the only way to use is plugging in. Disappointed.

Battery not included

Weak suction, quite loud and unfortunately completely incompatible hose diameter with other Dewalt tools - such as sanders and saws. The fact that it has a slot for the "older" style 18V battery is an indication that it was designed years ago.

It requires a lot of modifications to make it more usable for me (sound deadening, exhaust re-design, sealing the interior motor mount and 3D printing of various attachments) so it's not really worth the price at the end...

Somewhat amusing is how Dewalt engineers designed the PCB and dealt with the dual battery/AC power with a relay and a double pole on/off switch...

One fundamental issue while running on battery is that you don't see the battery level indicator, so there should have been additional battery level indicator on the outer shell of the unit (yeah another future mod) - even cheaper tools nowadays have that...

I hope this tool soon gets a version 2...

Not what I expect from Dewalt

Died on third attempt to use. Was planning on using it around the house If needed (wet/dry). On my third attempt to use it, it made noise but barely any suction (when brand new, not the greatest suction to start off with). Contacted De-Walt directly as their local service center (Tampa) was closed down. Heard there may be other Service centers closing soon as well. They gave me another location to go to about an hour drive away one way. So that would mean basically four hours of driving to drop off and pick up at another time. Not worth the effort. As they are making more and more of their products in China and possibly closing down more repair centers, De-Walt has become a throwaway product. It's sad as they once made great products. Look to other brands that will support their products if they fail.

Read reviews elsewhere, do not buy!
