Protect your purchase

The problem mentioned by another customer concerning the flimsey harness is easily repairable. The hinge in question simply requires that the nut and bolt be tightened. To get to this nut and bolt, there are 4 small screws that attach the headstrap base to the light uniIt that need to be removed. Once removed a simple twist with a philips head screw driver tightens the hinge. It appears to me that the entire assembly was very well designed since it allows for the user to make this adjustment.

I don't need to add much more information about the Lumen output. From my market search, It is simply the highest lumen per dollar on the market. Nothing else for $25 or even up to $50 can compete.

Once the adjustment on the harness hinge is made, it functions quite well, better than most headlight harnesses. I have had 4 others. And this is the most sturdy, although not as adjustable as one with a ball and socket joint. But I don't think that really matters.

The complete package is an uncompromisingly high value.

BETTER THAN EXPECTED WITH A FIX

Had a Dorcy headlight before. After I broke it tried others. Nothing came close. Great light for
jobs inside and outside of home. Also great in the car for looking under seats etc.

THIS IS A SUPER BRIGHT FLASHLIGHT.....IT WILL BLIND YOU IF YOU LOOK AT IT FOR EVEN A SECOND...MADE VERY GOOD AND WILL LAST A LONG TIME.....WONT BE DISSAPOINTED IF YOU BUY ONE....GREAT FOR JUST ABOUT ANYTHING YOU CAN THINK OF THAT YOU NEED A LOT OF LIGHT SUCH AS HUNTING , CAMPING , FISHING........

SUPER BRIGHT

This headlight -- especially for the money -- is one of the brightest on the market and has a wonderful beam pattern. The LED is perfectly centered and gives a nice combination of a piercing spot with a useful spillover pool so it works well for trail use as well as closer work, like placing tent stakes. It has a full-power setting as well as a "half-power" one I would rate at about 80% of full bright. With fresh batteries, I would find the light too bright for comfortable reading, even on the low setting. There is no strobe or blink option. The straps are comfortable and the light stays in place. The AAA batteries are contained in a little cassette that fits neatly in the light itself, so there is no uncomfortable battery pack to lean your head against.

Unfortunately, the light has some flaws, and one is so severe I believe I will end up returning it:

a) The switch is easy to use, but several times I opened my pack to find the light had accidentally switched on with movement and the batteries had drained for the last 6 hours. Oops.

b) I wish the straps could be detached so I could use the light on a bicycle helmet.

c) The ratchet has an adjustment limit of about 90 degrees, from horizontal to vertically downward. It doesn't need to go straight down, and it would have been useful to have at least one position that was a little elevated from horizontal.

d) The real problem is the adjustment mechanism itself. It uses a spring-loaded ratchet. This works well when adjusting the light downward, but is a nightmare when trying to adjust it upward to any degree. The little plastic pawl jumps the teeth on the ratchet so a person has to adjust the light completely upward before going back down, even if you only wanted to adjust it one click. Worse, the ratchet mechanism is never completely solid for a given setting, so the light bobs up and down terribly as you walk, making it pretty useless as it illuminates ground-trees-ground-trees with every step. I don't see any way to fix it as it is part of the design.

This is a terrific light from a vision and optical standpoint -- easily bettering lights that cost 4x as much. It is light, comfortable, and the battery life is good. Where it falls down is in the mounting and execution and in that regard, it is miserable. If you're looking for an extremely bright, even headlight for sedentary use, this is the one. If you plan to hike with it or move around much, there are far better choices in terms of how the light mounts to the headband bracket.
