Over 300 pieces and an easy to follow, illustrated, workbook are included. Build it, add batteries, start it up, and watch it run! Even includes lighting and sound effects. Once assembled a simple press of a button turns on the power, spins the cooling fan, pistons fire up and down, lights flicker mimicking the air-fuel combustion process, and emits sounds of a roaring engine. In addition to the mechanical skills acquired through building, this DIY Toy 6-Cylinder Combustion Engine Model Kit also includes a detailed introduction in the instruction manual. By reading, children will recognize the difference between an electric motor vs. the powerful Flat 6 Cylinder, and learn about different types of combustion engines. Lastly, the introduction delves into the four-stroke cycle through a visual representation of the four steps (Intake, Compression, Power, and Exhaust). The color box is 4" x 17.5" x 13.5" so it is a great size for gift giving. Fully assembled, the engine is ready to go at 7.25" x 7.25" x 11". We recommend this product for boys and girls ages 12+. Needs more detailed building instructions for the working parts having to do with belts and pistons etc. Some of the parts fell off while it was running and couldn't retrieve .
