After spending months researching the market I stumbled across the Dremel 3D45. It has all the checkboxes - good build volume, support for many filaments (including nylon!), enclosing chamber, detachable build plate, semi-automatic levelling, camera, wifi, good cloud software, excellent reviews and surprisingly was cheaper than some of my other top alternatives! When a local shop put it on 20% discount I decided to buy. In retrospective it's a bit surprising that it took me so long to discover this printer, had I found it earlier in my research it would have saved some time.

The shipping box was superbly packed. Everything was well protected and had no damages during shipping. Assembling the printer was easy and fast. The needed utilities like the glue stick for the build platform, print removal tool and filaments where included, so I got started fast and my first print was ready in an hour or so. The manual is also very comprehensive and intuitive - I needed to refer to it for how to load the filament as well as how the glue should be applied and it was very clear.

The build quality is really good! If you use the Dremel filaments the printer will automatically adjust settings based on the RFID - I have never needed to adjust these settings yet, so far I have printed ECO-ABS and PETG. What for me is even more important is the reliability, and here the printer really shines... No failed prints, it just work, over and over again. I have had long prints over 24 h without any issues. My only failed print was trying to print a perfect sphere with PETG and 50 micron resolution... it created a filament mess each time. After playing with the settings I realised that the adhesion area for the first layer become too small, increasing the resolution to 100 micron (i.e 0.1 mm) and printing again solved the problem... the print of the sphere completed successfully. Stray filaments can occur, but not very much and these are easily removed after the print either by hand or with a fineknife. The printer bed adhesion is very good, in fact so good that it can sometimes be hard to get the object of - the included putty shovel (print removal tool) is helpful here to carefully pry loose the print.

My upcoming projects will include more challenging materials like nylon (supported by Dremel) as well as more exotic bendable filaments such as NinjaFlex. The latter will of course require more tinkering with settings as these are not Dremel filaments - but I have a high confidence that the Dremel 3D45 will do a great job with these as well.

So if you are hesitating to but this printer - don't... for this price range you are not going to find a better value for money with this easy of use, quality and reliability. If you feel it's a bit pricey compared to other DIY lower end printers, yes it is, but in terms of what you are getting it's definitely worth it.

I purchased my printer earlier in the year and received it in early June due to some shipping delays. This is my second 3D printer, and this one is a lot more user friend than my old Creality CR-10 mini. Print quality is great, but the real benefit for me is no longer having to fiddle with every little thing on the printer to get a good print. Everything just seems to work with minimal effort. I've also tried out the Dremel print cloud. There were a few issues with their registration process the first day I tried, but I suspect that the service was just down as it worked the next day. It's nice to be able to allocate print quantity for family/friends who would like to print using my printer from the cloud.

Pros:
+ Quick setup

+ Great print quality
+ Slicer included (customized Cura by the looks of it) contains all optimal settings for the printer
+ Works very well with the Dremel filaments (RFID takes out all the guesswork for configuring temperatures)
+ Dremel includes USB drive with model for printing the adapter to vent the printer

Cons:
- The spool holder doesn't hold 1kg spools (3D printed a new door with a feed hole for non-Dremel filament)
- No Windows driver (at least not that I can find. Haven't looked for a Linux driver).

Overall I feel that this is a fantastic printer. The only issues I've had with it are more minor inconveniences for me. I would definitely recommend this printer for the great quality prints with minimal effort.

No more fiddling to get a great print

I am a high school drafting teacher and was tasked with finding an alternative 3D printer to our current.  We use 3D printing as a resource for the students as well as in our unit on the design/engineering process, rapid prototyping, and additive manufacturing.  I am incredibly happy that someone within our state teachers conference said I would benefit from researching what Dremel had to offer.  We settled on the 3D45 and have now bought more of this model in moving forward with other teachers based on my experience. 

The printer has been absolutely amazing!  The features on this printer are all-in-one and succeed where others have failed us.  The printer has an enclosed print bay, glass print bed (which is also heated) as well as internal filament feed which are all needed features that have held us back in the past.  Cleaning the print bed for us is a simple squirt of household glass cleaner and a wipe with a paper towel, with the print bed being removed and reset with no hassle. I have used this printer as a workhorse and put it through its paces with prints over 24 hours as well as printers under 30 minutes.  We have adjusted a project 1/4 of a millimeter in dimension and the printer has proven it's accuracy. It is a printer that we use weekly with my students and through multiple hundred prints at this point, I could not be happier.

The setup of the printer could not be more easy or user friendly.  It is a plug in, and follow the prompt process that takes all of the guesswork out setting things up.  Again, I am so happy with Dremel's design and user interfacing because this is where things tend to hold individuals back in producing a successful print. Through the display board and other features, theres no guesswork and no hard to follow instructions.  Things such as leveling the print bed, chancing the filament, or navigating an error message are all prompted and easy to follow, and basically fool-proof.  The software that the printer uses to setup a file pre-print is very easy to navigate and works super well for someone that is learning how to 3D print, or someone who is well versed and wants to tweak the settings to get the most out of their model.  It performs like a basic 3D modeling software in interface, and very easy to pickup and become proficient with.  We also have printed all of the filaments that Dremel has to offer with the absolute minimal of hiccups. 

Again, could not be happier and more pleased with this product and would be more than willing to speak to anyone looking to purchase.  You will not regret it.

Best Printer for Education

I bought this back in April, 2020. At first, I had zero luck with this machine. I contacted support, fixed a couple of issues, and ended up with a working machine. Although it worked reliability was appalling and only 2/5 prints succeeded, due to skipped steps, shifted layers, and jamming. After 2 months the machine decided to just stop doing its thing. So I contacted support, and 3 weeks later I had a replacement machine. Support was really helpful, especially considering its operating not at full capacity due the pandemic.

Now here's where stuff started to change. The new machine was quieter and much much more reliable, with filament jamming gone. Surfaces were clean, consistent, and the extruder worked very reliably. And exotic filaments like PC and Nylons printed without error.

 However, for its price, the 3d45 lacks what I would consider commonplace in high end consumer machines. The extruder gears are one side only, instead of dual drive ( Come on, dual drive isn't that hard.) During the print nothing is adjustable on the fly, which makes dialing in temps infuriating, and thats entirely firmware, and this needs to be added. More importantly on the firmware, the first layer offset is only adjustable to a tenth of a millimeter, where it should be to a fiftieth. The bed is removable, but is really just a plate of glass, with no special coating or features. Using non-dremel filament requires an external spool holder, and you have to remove the filament cover during printing. The biggest problem is the hot-end, as its much more prone to jamming than v6 style hot-ends. Other than being all metal, its pretty lacking in ability, with no silicone sock, no abrasion resistant nozzle, and filament forms boogers on the tip. Personally, I would like Dremel to release upgrade parts, such as a silicone sock, upgraded wear resistant hotend, textured build plate and a dual drive extruder for more flexible filaments. With that, the 3d45 would be future-proof, and in my opinion at least be the perfect machine for makers.

Not perfect by any means, but still amazing.

I bought 2 of the Dremel Digilab 3D printers at the start of this past school year. My students put them through the ringer! Dependable, easy to use, and worth every penny!

Easy to use!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This was my present to myself for my grad school graduation, since Covid cancelled everything. I had built my own 3D printer before and it just never quite worked right, but my researched revolves around 3D printing so I was determined to get the best... and I was not disappointed! With just a quick setup and a small bed adjustment, it was ready to print. Its amazing to be able to click print and not worry about failed prints and wasted filament. I'm very happy!

So Worth It

I bought this printer and the experience has been great.  The printer is easy to use right out of the box.  The instructions are easy to follow to get the printer up and running.  I have been satisfied with the prints and different colors of PLA offered by Dremel.  I would recommend the printer.

Easy to use and great tool for 3D printing.

Writing a review about the Dremel Digilab 3D45 is easy.  All I have 
to do refer you to what Dremel says about their printer.    What
Dremel says their 3D printer will do, it will do.  I think when they 
decided to develop a 3D printer, Dremel knew what their name 
stood for. They knew they had to get it right, and get it right they 
did.  Easy filament loading, auto bed leveling, beautiful prints, you 
name it, it's all there.  The Dremel Digilab 3D45 is a five star

IT DOESN'T GET ANY BETTER

We have had the Dremel 3D40 printer in our high school makerspace now for 4 years and we love it! We have never had an issue with the printer and it works beautifully. Once when we did have a question, the Dremel customer service helped us over the phone to troubleshoot our question. I have recommended the Dremel 3D printers to many of my colleagues and friends.

When COVID hit, several students from the school took home these printers in order to print masks for industry workers. The print quality is amazing!
