[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] First of all let me start by saying I love this portable drive! The EMTEC portable 256GB mSATA X200 SSD drive is extremely lightweight, fast and just darn handy to have.

It's not heavy and cumbersome like having an external drive, which I have; it's small and light as a regular USB drive with the difference of being larger in memory. It's a SSD drive with means it's a solid state storage device that has no moving parts like a regular disk drive.

The drive connects using a USB cord which then is conveniently held by the red rubber band that is wrapped around the middle of the drive. How handy is that? The EMTEC portable drive uses the power from the laptop or desktop computer so there's no batteries to worry about either.

The uses are endless with this drive as there's a whopping 256GB of memory which can be used to store a heck of a lot photos, documents, music or in my case to back-up your current computer in case something should happen.

It recognized it and brought up a window with the option to format it for game storage. It downloads games fast, and I have had no problems with it. Highly recommend!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Love this portable hard drive! It is physically a great size for use as a backup to a PC. It fits discreetly when connected behind the machine, unlike the bulky device i had to use before. It's 256GB size provides ample space for a full computer backup, plus its solid state drive is quick and responsive.

It's so TINY!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was offered the opportunity to test out the Emtec 256gb external usb 3.1 drive and am happy to report that it is smoking fast!

I have worked in IT since the early 90's and have used external storage format standards ranging from first gen USB 1.0 at 1.5Mbps (get a cup of coffee and settle in) to the current 3.1 standard that promises 10 Gbps literally 1,000's of times the bandwidth (potential speed) of gen 1.

After unboxing it, I fired up the computer, plugged this drive in and ran it through its paces on CrystalDiskMark 6.0.2 (see attached photo for complete results).

I was impressed with the results, and have to say it was by far the closest to box advertised that I have ever tested.

Pros:
1. Small compact size with cool rubber-band to store USB adapter cable (won't be losing this one!)
2. Super Fast SSD based storage topped out at 368.8 MB/s read and 296.4 MB/s write speeds
3. Large storage size at a reasonable price, it will more than cover my daily storage needs

Cons:
1. Fully formatted on windows 10 it reports 238GB of usable space not 256GB. I realize there is overhead for formatting and I also realize they are using the 1,000 instead of 1,024 MB per GB standard, but come on. I think the industry should have switched to advertising usable space long ago. That is what the consumer is actually concerned about!

I really can't fault Emtec for using the same semi-bogus standard as the rest of the industry so don't hold that against them!

If you are looking for a blazing fast, high capacity, storage solution, I would highly recommend this USB 3.1 setup from Emtec! 

There isn't an external drive out there that can beat its performance (only downside is no more coffee breaks for me while transferring large files)...

High-speed Data Storage Heaven!

It fit in the palm of my hand and I do not have large hands. I have so many pictures from family and friends and so many memories, I look forward to transfer these pictures to my new drive for safekeeping.

Amazing!!!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] When I got this I was so excited to get all of my photos something, ensuring I'd never lose them. I had no idea hope much more this would hold. EVERY SINGLE FILE on our computer is in this nifty palm sized life saver. We can take our files everywhere we want and there is still oodles and oodles of space left on it. I love that we can plug it right into our TV as well. We can watch a movie directly from our drive.

This works well, but I needed an adapter to use it with my MacBook which uses usb-c.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have very mixed feelings about this product. It does have a very large storage capacity, so I won't need anything like it for a very long time. It's also compact, which mean it's easy to store away. There's also a red rubber band around the drive that'll hold its charging cable. I didn't have a whole lot of experience with SSDs so I needed help. There is an IT help phone number on the box that you can call. I had difficulties trying to figure out how to get it to work with my MacBook Pro. I watched YouTube videos rather than calling IT. I was able to figure out how to get into my Utility Disk application in order to make the SSD compatible with my computer. Once I did that, it was very easy to use. I have only tried to transfer my music and pictures so far. I transferred about 500 songs, which only took about a minute. I tried to transfer roughly 3000 pictures, but it didn't work. At first the transferring took about 15-20 minutes, then once it was done, it said that it couldn't transfer a couple of them, but then I saw that it didn't transfer any of them. I'm not sure why it did that, but it was a waste of time. All in all, this SSD would fulfill its purpose, but I do believe that it could have been faster, since high speed transfer rates is part of the products advertisement.
