This is my second ecobee thermostat. First one only lasted 8 years though so unsure what actually happened.  It stopped pushing 24v down the wire to the furnace. Replaced it with the new one and every thing worked again. Added two more sensors to get an idea of how well my hvac is pushing the air around. So far it is all within 3 degrees on both floors of the house. The ecobee thermostat has plenty of options for utility savings, as well as the ability to manually control it.

I have had this thermostat for about 3 weeks now and am extremely pleased with its functionality.  It was easy to install and very efficient.   It is also aesthetically pleasing.

New Thermostat

Received the two thermostats quickly.  Because we had guests I waited a few days to install the units (1 upstairs and 1 downstairs).  Easy to install if you take a photo of the existing wires.  The thermostat along with the ecobee app on the Iphone made it easy to setup. Both have been operating on HEAT only and temperature and fan controls are excellent.  I'm glad that we replaced the two Nest units that were installed by the home builder in 2020.

Smart Thermostat Premium (2 total)

We've had eco bee for a couple of weeks now.  The weather has been really nice, so we haven't been using heat or AC.  I can see this weeks weather, I can see indoor and outdoor temperatures at a glance.  And, after watching too many crime shows, it can prove that I was home at the time of the crime.  LOL

It's pretty cool

The stat has a very clean interface and can easily accommodate most people's needs. The primary display provides the necessary information at a glance. The menus and sub-menus (for programming) are logical and step-wise. Internet connection is straightforward.

Easy install and setup.

…something like this could improve our home's comfort.  I am truly impressed by the ecobee's ability to manage the temperature with our occupancy. Our ecobee was installed seven months ago with our new Carrier HVAC and it has performed admirably. We installed remote sensors in all for bedrooms, the basement room, and two mid-level rooms. I'm fascinated watching the app, because it shows when the room is actually occupied and subsequently shows the HVAC system's response to that new occupancy. It lags slightly, waiting to see if the detection was just someone popping in and popping back out, but after a couple minutes the system responds to a true occupancy. We have a wide variation between the basement and the rest of the living space, but overall the ecobee provides a reasonable balance throughout. No system is perfect so I give four stars for the commendable response it provides to our three living levels and highly recommend the ecobee.

I Never Would Have Thought…

This is for carrier systems only and will not work for other brands. The description on the web page did not say that

I purchased two Ecobee Premium thermostats for two separate houses to replace smart thermostats that I had purchased over a decade ago. One of the primary reasons for choosing Ecobee was that I could integrate them locally via Apple HomeKit into Home Assistant. This does work, but the HomeKit API is severely limited in terms of the controls and data it exposes. Further, Ecobee stopped giving out developer kit API keys in mid-2024, which makes their API inaccessible now. This is a significant limitation for anyone who is looking to have better access to both control and monitor their thermostats. Ideally, they would provide locally accessible APIs or expand what is possible via HomeKit APIs. Overall, I would say this is still a good thermostat to purchase, but the limitations around API and local control are definitely problematic. You cannot trust cloud based services, because they can and will brick your devices at any point in the future.

Good hardware but closed APIs are a problem

Do not purchase if you need to control multiple zones in your house (i.e., if you have more than one thermostat but only one cooling/heating unit).  Our Nest thermostats needed to be upgraded as they were losing smart functionality. After researching, we replaced them with Ecobee (3 zones in the house).  The entire house is now either too cold or too hot all day and night. The room temperature never reaches the temperature we set it to be at. To get the upstairs to cool, the main floor and basement temperature must be set at much cooler than desired. We never had this issue with our old Nest thermostats which accurately heated/cooled to set temperatures. Additionally, we purchased Ecobee premium for the sensors but to try to regulate multiple zones, we had to turn off the sensors as any unoccupied room caused heating/cooling to stop working in the other zones.  In a prior house (single thermostat without zones), the Ecobee worked great which is why we purchased. Unfortunately, Ecobee does not regulate temperature well if you have more than one thermostat zone in your house. We wish we had not spent a significant amount for three Ecobee premium thermostats that we will soon be replacing with something else.

Does not work with multiple zones

Thermostat works alright but it does not follow the local peak time of use energy schedule. The Ecobee app is registered to my local power company but the peak time of use hours are off for Colorado. My local peak time of use hours are 5pm - 9pm but the thermostat thinks my peak hours are 3pm - 7pm. Unfortunately there is no way to change this :(
