<p>Pediments are the portion of the trim that is located above the pilasters, which are the column like frames on the sides of windows and doors. Directly below the pediments though, between the pediment and the pilasters, is a crosshead or breast board. The crosshead is the flatter, protruding section directly above the door. Pediments can be purchased by themselves or can come with a crosshead already attached. These Pediments are manufactured out of a high density urethane, which is made to resemble wood but without the deterioration like wood has. The Elliptical Sunburst pediment was a replacement for the original pediment provided by the builder of our current home.  That pediment was the standard one used for most of the homes in our development.  Since it was made entirely of wood, it rotted due to its exposure to the elements.  The detail and workmanship of the new pediment adds a totally new look to the home's exterior...and it is made of a durable polyurethane foam.

Better Than the Original

I purchased two of the Elliptical Sunburst with Trim Pediments for my parents house to add some detail.  I am so happy with them.  They were easy to install (very lightweight.)  I painted them once I had them up.  They still look like new even with our Pennsylvania snow and ice!  My parents still talk about them at least once a week -  telling anyone who will listen how much they love them!

The arch looked good once installed, but required extra paint to cover small blemishes.

It looks okay, but the feel of the material is lighter than expected. Not terrible, but not premium either.

Fine but not amazing

The Sunburst Trim Pediment was perfect in every way but quality.  In less than 3 years, it began to crack in about 30% of the surface area.  I will paint over the cracks in the next few weeks but I expect that in the next 2-3 years I will have to replace it with something else.
