Worth the money

I have no doubt that a big green egg or a Kamado joe 3 would be nicer, but for 1/3 the price this bbq is amazing. We're on our 8th season with it (we bought an older version that is almost identical) and it's been a pure joy. Just as good for a 225f 10 hour cook as it is at searing a steak at 700f. My only complaint is that 8 years in, rust is beginning to be a major issue, that said we live in Nova Scotia, have left the bbq outside without a cover 2 full winters and as the old guy at the local hardware store says “even plastic rusts around here”. With a little tlc this bbq should give you 10+ years of amazing meals. Frankly I hate Walmart and everything about them, but for the price, this bbq is amazing. Look up info on the “Akorn Kamado cooker” it's the exact same bbq with a different stand.

Best Kamado style cooker for the price point.

This ain't no ceramic egg, but it works just like one. Make sure to season the cast-iron grill as this is not mentioned in the manual (your grill will rust and stick if you do not). Also check the upper and lower gaskets as some holding pins may have come out during transport. Also make sure to protect this beaut from the rain, as the top and bottom gaskets will allow water to seep inside leading to premature rusting. And as this is almost identical to the Char-Griller Akorn, you can order their stone diffuser (or compatible knockoff) for indirect grilling. The lip around the edge is not quite wide enough for the 17" diameter diffuser which I ordered, but I was able to correct the situation by adding bolts at the required locations (see photo). I noticed some third-party diffusers are sold as17-5/8" which might fit without this mod. Still an essential purchase for making this BBQ fully functional. Had no trouble adjusting to this model after 20 years using a Char-Griller barrel BBQ.  This is a good price when bought in store, but an even better bargain when delivered with free shipping (when in stock online). The box is is fairly large, about 26x26x28" so make sure to check your vehicle openings, or be prepared take the box apart in the parking lot!

Good product

I'm very experienced with Kamado grills.  I have a ceramic one and used to own an Akorn (hence the reason I got this one). It looks pretty much identical to an Akorn made by another company.  Let me tell you it's close, but no cigar.  The top vent has issues.  When closed, the openings still have a 1 to 2 mm gap between both bottom and top parts, therefore the grill does not extinguish, it holds about 350f until the charcoal is all gone.  I'm going to try to fix it myself but if it doesn't work, I'll take parts off my Akorn and put them on this grill as the top vent is still good and identical on my old 8yr old Akorn.  Other than that, the grill is super easy to assemble, the rest of the grill is sealed, and the bottom vent seems solid as well.  The grill is cast iron which I like.  It's my secondary Kamado grill.  If you have an Akorn, the parts should be pretty much all interchangeable. Out of the box, this grill will not be able to perform low and slow cooks without any mods.

Needs improvement

Not able to maintain temps below 330 F. Actually, with all vents closed, it still keeps going at 600+ F. Tried to engage with customer service, but to no avail. All they did was ask pedantically if I followed the steps in the manual for setting up the grill. The fact that the fire doesn't get extinguished with all vents closed means there's a leak. I suspect it's because the rim of the grill is uneven so the hood doesn't sit flush with the bottom of the grill. I really wanted to like this grill, and tried my best to patch the leaks with nomex gaskets. This helped a bit, but it still leaks air.
