Chronos, an ancient Greek god, is the namesake of the ancient Greek word for time, forming roots for English words such as `chronological` and `synchronize`. Chronos, in the form of a serpentine beast, was a symbol of the creation and existence of all time. In this remarkably detailed statue, Chronos stands in his personified form as Father Time. He carries in his right hand a scythe, symbolizing his power to end all things. In his left hand, he bears an hourglass which represents his control over an endless chronological cycle.
