Story

It has been over ten years since the world was first introduced to Final Fantasy Tactics on the original Playstation. The game, though plagued with a horrible translation, was wonderful, and featured dozens of hours of addictive, strategic gameplay.
Fast forward to 2007. Square Enix released an enhanced port of the game for the PSP system. Although the game features a few extra scenes and battles, as well as some wonderful animation and voice work, the real selling point is its new translation. In keeping in line with the feel of Final Fantasy XII, Square Enix has completely redone the narrative. No longer does the game contain some of the worst examples of "Engrish" ever to grace U.S. shores. The new, graceful translation allows the player to get even more involved with the story, and really gives the writing the air of intelligence it deserves.

There are only two problems with this new version. The first is the slowdown that occurs during certain spell or attack animations. However, this slowdown is not game-breaking, and does not occur that often. The other problem is more a fault with the PSP, since its sound hardware is somewhat inferior to the Playstation's. This causes a couple of the sounds to be distorted, most often resulting in oddly high pitches. Again, though, these instances are few and far between, and are more a result of the emulation process than of a faulty game.

In all, War of the Lions is an excellent update. I highly recommend it to fans of Final Fantasy, other strategy-RPGs, or games with good stories. Even long-time FFT vets won't be disappointed with this one.

I can tell you honestly this will be the best game you can buy for your PSP. It is a MUST buy. I am actually suprised at how much the story, and gameplay has gripped me! The gameplay has you actually caring for your characters instead of them just being a means to an end, and the amount of customization with the character class/jobs is very satisfying. The story is actually gripping, and also places you in some moral dilemas, which and alot of flavor to it.
Do yourself a favor and get this game.

In love with this game!

I knew this game would be good. I've been a long time fan of Final Fantasy (I've even played the original NES games) and this re-envisioned version of Tactics is incredible. It could have gone a little faster, but it was perfect for the PSP. IF you are out looking for a decent role-playing game on the psp, this is definitely one to at least try. The Graphical quality is excellent, and it fits the psp. The music is primarily the same as the original for the ps1/psx. The dialogue has been slightly redone so fans of the original may be a little disappointed, but it fits. I highly recommend this game.

A trip to the past

This game is like non other. At the beginning its kinda hard to pick up and get used to the new job system ( its nothing like final fantasy tactics advance) but its really rewarding to keep progressing in the game. I for example can't stop playing it becasuse I really want to get to the ninja job. But this game is not only a good game but its just rewarding to just watch someone play it.

One of the best rpg titles

great port of FF: Tactics since i played it for the PSX till i lost my disc and had a lot of fun with the game there and was disappointed when i lost it and to get it for the PSP was an awesome find and along with FF1&2 i have played the heck out of this game and its well worth it to buy

Great port of FF: Tactics

I had gotten FF1 & 2 for PSP so I thought that this game would be fun. I was exactly right. This game is very complex and somewhat difficult to follow, but it is extremely enjoyable. I simply cannot put it down. I have been playing FF games ever since Chrono Trigger came out. For anyone who likes FF or Fire Emblem, this might be the reason for you to get a PSP.

A solid Port of the Original PSone game. A new shakesperian Translation to Fix up the originals Engrishy one Adds to the experience. Nice New Cutscenes with Voice acting and Multiplayer modes included. Overall a Fun Strategy game. The only Quibble has to be with its price, theres only just enough New added to this game to justify a $40 price tag.

When I bought Final Fantasy Tactics for the PS1 in early 1998, I was blown away at the complexity of the story and the betrayal. The characters are truly amazing, the music is the best ive ever heard in any game to date. People complained about the huge mis-translation, but to some and myself, didn't care at all and really didnt notice too many things but with the PSP updated version, many things have been changed.
For example, many of the characters names and job classes have been changed and the actual text was changed using anachronistic English instead of straight-forward text. New scenarios,characters and jobs have been added with also voice-over anime cutscenes which is really well done in my opinion.
The only problems with the game is the frequent slow-downs in some of the spells and the audio has been slightly downgraded but nothing major that would turn you away.
If you enjoy Tactical games like Front Mission, Fire Emblem,etc then this game may be for you and is a stand-a-lone reason to purchase a PSP. In my opinion, if you want the full story to the world of Ivalice, I highly recommend seeking out Final Fantasy XII and the very rare Vagrant Story.

A Great port to one of the greatest games ever

I've had my psp for six months now and there are only two games that have been in my psp for an extended period of time, this is one of them (the other is monster hunter 2 freedom). Tactics is a lot of fun, it has interesting characters, a neat job system that is very in depth, a good story, and lots of side missions and unlockables. Also the addition of cut scenes is great, it really helps the story move along, and gives the characters more depth and personality.
The addition of multiplayer is interesting, and definately adds to replay value, the only problem is that it can be really, really hard. Especially if your characters are level 30 something and your friends are 60 something. In order for the multiplayer to work you have to be the same level as your friend because the enemy monsters will match the higher level characters. If you have the lower level prepare to watch your friend do all the work as your characters get cut down in one hit, and you miss pretty much everything you throw at them... But other than that, this game is great.

Great Game

Do you like strategy, turn-based, highly-customizable RPGs? If so, then this game is for you! If you like fast moving, graphically intense, low-strategy/quick-reaction games, then you might not like this game.

I love the game! I can't get enough of the strategy, and the high customization, via the variety of job-classes and skill combinations, lends to high replay-ability! The story line is nothing to shake a stick at either. I've played this on both the PS & the PSP, needless to say, it's a classic in my book!
