At this point have enjoyed a week of use of the Tracker IV around the farm.   The unit and pin-pointer accessory have performed as expected.   Primary use so far has been in the "all metal" mode which is most sensitive.   Has been useful for locating buried irrigation piping clamps and property boundary driven pins installed decades ago.    Also, it proved capable of finding legacy military projectiles, etc. on the property (buried at depths of ~2-5").  

Suggest buyers of this model check out  You-tube presentations on the capabilities and features.  The "Travel Treasure" channel has a couple of no-hype instructional videos on the Tracker IV.

Solid Basic Metal Detector and Accessory

First some back story. A couple months ago while building our porch I was brushing some sawdust off my shirt, in the process my wedding ring flew off my finger, bounced off my saw, and flew away with me not realizing what had happened until a few seconds later. With nothing to go on but how I was standing and the motion I was making at the time, we spent about 30 min each crawling, dragging rakes and scuffing around in the general area with no luck. It's just a $30 tungsten carbide ring, but that's not the point. For the past couple months we would take occasional cursory walks through the yard in different sections with no luck, so I decided to buy this. 

After reading the instructions and getting a few laughs at them telling me how to search for buried items such as “loot from a bank robbery, or possibly just someone's life savings” I started with all the settings on the highest sensitivity with only the goal of finding my ring in mind and telling myself that it was going to be on the surface, so there would be no reason to dig, I can always do that after I find my ring. 

I started in the area where I was standing when it happened and worked my way across the yard, stopping and scratching the grass at every beep with no luck. In the meantime, I was able to trace the buried power line to my shed, and find part of a soda can under some leaves, then I hit a spot that made a fuzzy beeping sound. The fact that this sounded so different then all the other beeps made me give in and get my shovel while trying to restrain visions of a Jed Clampett type scenario playing out. I dug down about 4” into the red clay and found the bolt on the left in the picture. The fact I found this at least gave relief that the detector actually works. About 10 minutes later I got another fuzzy beep, dug down a few inches and found the metal rod. I have a theory that the rust seeps out into the surrounding soil and makes the detector think the object is bigger then it actually is. After a few more laps back and forth I got another fuzzy beep. This time it was over about a 12 inch square area. After finding the center using the X method from the instruction manual, I dug down a full shovel blade depth to find the knob, waved the detector over the hole and was still getting a fuzzy beep so I expanded the hole out another couple inches and found the bolt at around the same depth. Within an hour I found enough stuff that wouldn't bring a dime all together and still haven't found my ring, but have become familiar with the operation enough to say that it seems to be a pretty descent little gadget. When we get some warmer days I will take it to some places other then my back yard for some real treasure hunting, maybe I'll find some pocket change or jewelry, or maybe I'll find some more rusty bolts.

I lost an antique ring in my yard. I was absolutely devastated. The ring was gold with diamonds and rubies, and it was also a 150-year old family heirloom. I was heartbroken. I bought a handheld metal detector elsewhere, and was on my hands and knees searching for a week straight. I felt sick to my stomach thinking of that ring. I took the chance and bought this detector. Within 2 minutes of searching, I heard that beautiful sound. I looked and still couldn't see a thing in the grass. I got down and swatted at the grass a bit- and there it was! Shining there, buried in the blades of grass! This was months ago, and I'm still just shocked that this ring was found!

Wow!!

It worked as intended.  It found my property metal rod in less than 1 minute.  Of course you have to know where approximately the metal rod might be to begin with.  Once it hovered the metal rod, it beeped.  I had some doubts initially with the metal detection sound but after digging up for 1 inch of dirt, there it was.   I found what I was looking for.  Well worth the money.

Nothing fancy, it works as intended.

This detector does everything it was supposed to do,I will be getting a 4inch so It does not sound on everything [aluminum] I come across! the 8inch is great for lakesides,beaches and parks,the 4inch searchcoil will be good for busy places like Schools,yards and sidewalks sides!.I am not shure if I will need the 10in searchcoil that will go deep and may cause problems with hole covering after dig spots?Maybe beaches it would work good on?Real Happy with this unit just remimber it has to be moveing to detect target,So i bought a fine detecter for finding target piece for digging it also is a bountyhunter!

Built to teach each time it is used.

I bought the detector to find my property stakes. I figured if a surveyor would cost about 250...I'd rather pay more than half less and do it myself. Based off Internet reviews, I chose this one.  Within 5 minutes I found my first stake. My 10 year old asked could he walk the yard with it...and in about another 5 minutes he found a tiny vintage car. It has now become his toy...lol...Talk about getting a bang for your buck...Thanks

It seems to work pretty well.   It was easy to put together, and the documentation is skimpy but easy to understand.   I found the first property monument marker on our property in about 5 minutes so mission accomplished.

In about a week of possession I've only used my Tracker IV in our yards and one park. At the park, yesterday, for a half hour, I believe I discovered how the tones and discrimination work. I dug only five times total. All five times were coins. Four pennies and one quarter. I possibly missed one or two, but the identification seemed so good that I personally don't think I missed any. (At the chosen sensitivity.) Our local earth, at this time, is "so" hard, that I set the sensitivity at about 9 o'clock. All of the coins were at 2 to 3 inches or less, which I was able to dig okay. Years ago I did metal detecting with a BFO detector. This Tracker IV is like a PHD and the BFO was like a kindergartener. - The only con is that I wish it "did" read deeper. For when the soil is soft again. Ha!

The BH Tracker IV is excellent thus far

i purchased this for my husband and told him that if it didnt work like he wanted it to i'd look into another one for him. we've been out a few times so far and he's really quite pleased with it. whats a quarter by todays standards? when he finds one...priceless. well pleased with it.
