Practice makes perfect, and it's never been more fun to practice writing than with the Fisher-Price Think & Learn Alpha SlideWriter! It brings hands-on fun to learning how to write and spell…and it's mess-free, too! With the moveable tiles, kids can touch each of the letters and slide them around to make a word. Then they can use that word as a model to practice writing, letter by letter, on the erasable screen. And there are printed guide lines on the screen too, so preschoolers know where to cross their T's and dot those I's! The Alpha SlideWriter comes with a specially designed pen that guides preschoolers into a correct (and comfy!) pencil grasp, helping them develop important fine motor skills. And when they've mastered that grasp, simply remove the triangle-shaped grip and store it on the back of the Alpha SlideWriter! Where development comes into play Letter Recognition: Kids are introduced to each letter as they begin to manipulate and move them. I saw this and thought that it might provide some positive benefits for my grandson who is having trouble with writing so had it sent to him.  His mom was excited to get it because she too sees some positive uses that can make practice he needs to do more fun.  I especially liked the fact that it provides ways for him to trace correctly formed letters with his finger, which has been found to have big benefits with reading/writing. Since he has had it for only a few days it is too soon to say for sure how useful it will be.

I can put letters or words together for him to practice his writing, spelling and sounding out words together. It's easy to erase the writing and slide the letters to make new words. I love that it came with extra letter stickers to put in the two blank slides if your child has two of the same letters in their name. Awesome product, great for learning!

Great purchase!

Great toy to keep my 3yr old interested in writing, comes with stickers so you can add a few letters since it is just the basic alphabet. I added an extra M and D so she can start with simple words like mom and dad and can work up from there, love it! 
Only downside is i wish it had more blank spaces to add more extra letters

Great learning toy

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We got this toy in hopes of getting my four year old to practice her latter writing.  My daughter is a lefty so it can be hard to use toys with built it cords.  She liked using this toy.

Writing toy

It is VERY hard to move the letters to make a word and there aren't duplicate letters for words that use the same letter more than once except for stickers to put on blanks.    Also, I am a head start teacher and let my four year old niece practice on one and she scribbled like most children her age would do and it left indententions on the drawing board.  She didn't play  rough at all and only played with it for about  15 minutes.   I feel like the writing surface would be covered in marks and dented spots in no time at all.   I will be returning the two I bought.  It's a great idea but didn't work out.

Good idea but poorly put together

I bought this for play in the car only and within a week the little metal tip broke off the writing tool and now no one can use it.  I've tried to replace the writing pen but it seems like you cannot replace it....trash.  I have an old write/erase board for the car and that one has lasted about 7 years!
