it cuts reasonably well but does not open its jaws very wide, which makes for a lot of missed efforts... but my biggest complaint is that the open/closed lock/latch is made of cheap pot metal and the thumbing end of  mine snapped off leaving a rough end that is uncomfortable to open/close. It aoppears to attach with a Phillips screw/bolt, so I hope Fiskars will send me a replacement latch free very soon.

Bypass Pruners - - meh.

Easy to use

Nearly immediately broke. Was using this for the first time, just out of the package. I managed to cut through maybe 15 green smilax vines, all about 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick when the pruner just crumbled in my hand. Couldn't find all of the parts, but looked like the nut or bolt that serves as a hinge shattered.
I'm not unfamiliar with breaking tools from using them beyond their design, but c'mon. What I was doing could have been done by plastic safety scissors. The force applied when these broke wouldn't have cracked an egg.
Aside from the sudden failure, I didn't really have a chance to test out the comfort of the grip or how well the tool was cutting. Broke too soon to pass judgement.

Broke almost immediately during light work

I just bought a pair of these about a week ago. I like the handle design but the screw that holds the lock lever to keep the pruners closed loosens literally as soon as you flick the lever to open them. Locking and unlocking them a couple times causes the screw to loosen even more, creating the potential for losing the screw and therefore the locking lever. Tightening the screw does not solve the problem because if you tighten the screw enough to make it secure, it makes the locking lever impossible or very difficult to use, and it loosens up within a few flicks of the lever anyway. Overall pretty disappointed with this product.

Poor lock design

The product has a good feel and cuts well, but the locking mechanism has a bad design.  In order to keep the pruners locked, one must flick a locking piece into place.  This locking piece is secured by a philips head screw.  If the screw is too tight, the user cannot flick the locking piece into place.  If the screw is too loose, it will not hold the pruners closed, or worse (and this just happened), the screw and locking piece fall out.  I just went through an entire yard back of clippings and a three foot circle of yard looking for these pieces, with no luck.  I'm looking for a replacement screw and locking piece, but cannot seem to find replacement parts.  I am unlikely to buy this design again and would caution others from buying this design.

Poor locking mechanism

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This product couldn't have come at a better time. My previous pruners, also Fisksrs, were in need of replacement. The main differences were the locking mechanism and the overall grip size. The new ones (on the right) have a "rocking" type lock while the older version had a sliding lock on the handle side. I think it's a matter of personal preference as to which one is better. The rocking lock is just a tiny bit less convenient but not a deal breaker at all. There's no danger of accidentally engaging either one, and the rocking one is a bit easier to engage.   The grip on the reviewed one is a little bit smaller, but I think it made my hand feel less fatigued than my older pruners, but that could also be because the new ones were sharper. The new ones feel just a bit heavier, but I think it's more that the older ones had more of a lighter weight material to the handles (I don't want to say "plastic").  All in all, I'm very pleased with these pruners. They cut well, feel solid, and didn't hurt my hand when using them.

Trustworthy brand
