Understand the product. It is powered by an electric motor. So, I let it start, get up to speed, and then load the leaves. If you put the leaves first, it may be a big load on the motor when starting, and cause the wiring to deteriorate. I also made sure the  chopped leaves on the ground did not get too high and block additional choppings from dropping. If it cannot eject the chopped leaves, it could have problems. Following these simple steps, the leaf chopper has chopped about 50 bags of leaves this year without a problem. It is very light and easy to move around. It also folds and uses little space when stored. Excellent product at a great price.

Got the product quicker then several other companies I checked, and at a lesser price. Made getting rid of the large piles of wet and dry leaves I had quick and easy. Tried the adjustable mulch size and wet/dry settings and they did as discribed.

Works very well and mulches everything. It is a little loud but it gets the job done well.

I have an old horse with poor teeth.  I could buy chopped hay but that was getting pricey so I read about people using one of these to chop hay.  I found that putting it on the coarsest chop was the best.  It'll pay for itself soon.

Leaf mulcher/hay chopper

I have had my leafeater for 2 seasons. No problems. It will shred leafs down to mulch type material if you want. A little more messy with wet leafs. Don't overpack leafs in top, I use the plastic rake to stir the top. (Don't stick anything into the feed point) Eye protection is a must. Leaf dust will make you stay upwind. Does what its supposed to do. Cuts down on yard waste bags or again will make great mulch / compost material. The nylon strings are very easy to replace when worn down. It does chew up small twings or flower stems.

I read over 50 reviews on Amazon and Sam's before buying. This thing does exactly what I concluded it would do. Turns dry leaves into coarse to fine mulch in a reasonable time with modest effort. Use earplugs and safety glasses. Very easy to change cutting line using best .080 you can find.
Only two reasons to buy and use this. You want great mulch and are willing to take some extra time to "make it". Or you simply cannot dump your leaves close by without a lot of work or you must remove them from your property completely. If you are just buying this to chop them up and dump them nearby it is not worth the time or money.
If you are tediously bagging for a pick-up you may find this well worth while.
This leaf eater DOES work. Sticks or even modest size twigs will interfere though. The smallest of twigs are fine. Wet leaves are tough. Let them dry.
This should be a $100 item tops. But it meets my needs in a difficult situation for disposal and my neighbor is delighted to haul away many bags of great mulch for his garden.

It really works

This machine is like a string trimmer in a can. It absolutely does what they say it will, as long as the leaves are not wet. Sticks are a no-no, it wears off the trimmer line. Easily replaced though, so you can shred on. About three acres of pine needles and huge sycamore leaves have fallen prey to this machine so far in the first few hours. The result is just raked out into the grass and is small enough to quickly degrade.

A real leaf eater

This could very well be the most poorly designed machine ever.

Just use bags

I was really disappointed with this product and would not recommend it. The original motor burned out, but the company, to their credit, sent a replacement. However, it burned out as well. I asked for a refund, since my total use was pretty minimal, but they denied that, saying that I could mail the bulky thing to them to look at. That option was hardly economical, so I threw the whole thing away. An expensive lesson, but in my experience, this is a poorly made product that is best avoided
