Great little machine.  The cutter on my last one broke and I couldn't figure out how to fix it - but it had served me for a long time, so I figured a new one was in order.  (Besides, it was starting to act old.)  The only complaint I have about this model, as others have noted, is that it's very awkward to have to use two hands to start the vacuum, while at the same time having to hold up the package because of where the vacuum is located.  This was the same on my old one, too - so apparently you can't come up with a good alternative.  Anyway, otherwise, a great investment and a good machine.

A Little Awkward to Use, But a Good Appliance

We originally purchased a big box product by a different manufacturer. We used it one time and returned it. It was a total mess when it came to liquids.  Buy the best thing you won't be disappointed.  You get what you pay for.

Don't settle for a lesser product

Liking the new food saver but it is definitely a learning curve compared to my previous unit.  To place a new roll of ‘bags' into the unit, it took me a couple of tries to finally get it right.  
To seal a food item into the bag, I find the only way to get it to seal is to elevate the bag in a 3 inch or higher base to rest the bag on, and then it's ok to seal.  If I am doing something incorrect pleas let me know.

Like it but be sure to read manual before using

This unit is a replacement for a 15 year old unit that was a workhorse until I let it ingest broth into the pump.
On the 5200 I do like the bag seal before cut feature and the newer style accessory port. 
The bag sealing is a bit tricky and is not a one handed operation requiring the holding of the bag to be sealed and pushing both sides of the seal bar at the same time.
After about the 5th bag seal it has begun to rattle when the pump is on and truly disappointing.

Sometimes newer is not better

The locking handle for the seal is a poor design and is probably the weak link in the sealer.  Also, access to the vacuum slot is inconvenient, being too high up on the machine.

The FM5200 2-1 was a disappointment for me. I've been using FoodSaver machines for over 10 years. 

The machine required more manual dexterity operate. The sealing chamber is about 5 inches off the surface of the table, requiring you to hold the bag in place, while triggering the machine with a switch just under the sealing chamber.

I was also worried that the plastic pieces in both the chamber and the cutter bar were weak points in my opinion.

A better choice would be one of their traditional machines that sit flat, and have less moving plastic parts.

As far as functionality, it did vacuum and seal similar to the other models I have purchased in the past.

This model, a disappointment.

Isn't like the one had previously. Difficult to feed the bag in the machine and sometimes bag does not vacuum. Using new bags when I try to reseal. Bags are not overfilled. Miss my old machine.

After using the machine I feel it's cheaply put together and wish I had gotten a different one. The bag feeder/ sealer is cheaply made plastic hook that closes door and automatically seals the bag. The hose and the entire apparatus on the ziplock sealer is cheap plastic and the area where the bag is sealed is cheaply made. I see several places this will break with any use. The price is shocking for the quality.

I have used foodsaver for years but when I needed a new one I thought I would upgrade to this one and it's nothing but junk the sealing bar is about 4 inches high and then you need to push the sealing bar on both ends meaning you have to have 3 hands or tie yourself into a pretzel or have someone to help you. If this isn't bad enough every time it seals a bag it resets itself back to dry mode. Then the third time I went to use it only sucked about half the air out I could get more air out of a ziplock bag then this. So save yourself money and a headache buy something else.

Junk!

I was very disappointed in this sealer. The blade is wobbly and often didn't produce a clean cut. The switch mechanism requires two hands, which is very ackward while holding a bag in the machine. And several times it didn't respond until pressing several times. 
It is very noisy and all plastic, very flimsy. I will be sending it back. Sigh!!
