I've had Food Savers for many years, and recently purchased the newer version.  I love the simplicity of this newer model.  The fact that it does save money - no more spoilage - I have not done the math yet, but believe it will pay for itself.   Great product

I replaced my older Foodsaver with this one and it works great. My old one was OK, but this one pulls a better vacuum and seals better. Albeit, I did read the instructions and changed the way I vacuum seal foods. If it's wet, I'll freeze it first and than finish sealing.

Functional

I love my FoodSaver!! I use it multiple times a day for many reasons! I keep my bacon fresh by vacuum sealing the open package. I buy ciabatta rolls in bulk, vacuum seal 2 per bag and freeze them. I also buy meat in bulk and break it down into smaller portions and freeze it. It's just my husband and I so we need the smaller portions but we only get paid once a month and we have a fixed income. So I grocery shop once a month and often times buy the majority of our foods in bulk. We're able to save a lot of money and wasted food thanks to our FoodSaver!

Lots of money saved!

So far, so good.  Limited use so far, but as a long time customer, I expect this unit to perform as well as prior units.  This is my 3rd, but over 20 years or so.  I like that this unit is much quiter than my prior units. I also like that it remains fully backward compatible with all prior products.

Works as Expected

Generally a very good machine, but sometimes you have to remove, then reinsert to seal. Seems we may not always lineup the bag correctly, so maybe a guide on the machine would help avoid having to reset as often. Also, how the plug extends out from the bottom of the machine would benefit from a better design. Overall, mostly satisfied and recommend.

Seals ... usually

Seals well. Takes more product/bag to reach the part for automatic seal.  I'm able to use old Foodsaver to seal one end.  When saving tomatoes, the tray fills up and can't use a second time until tray dries out completely.  Again using old Food saver as backup. Wish I didn't need the old one. Bought the new one too replace old one,  glad I still have it.

So so

The power cord is WAY too short. It's very annoying since this seems like a good product with some shortsighted annoyances. And the accessory cord does not retract so I have to spend time pushing it back in carefully. Also, our first one seemed to "burn out" as it kept trying to remove the air from a bag but did not progress at all.

Good product, could be better though

This is the 3rd foodsaver that we have owned over the past 7 years, so we obviously believe in the product.  It also places us into a good place to talk about this version versus some of the prior:

- Look: this has a smaller counter space needed than our prior two, which is appreciated.
- Function: the "auto" function is a little tough to get used to versus our prior, and it seems like it wastes a few inches of bags with each use.  That said, it has functioned as we've come to expect, just a little more wasteful.
- Features: the attachment for canisters is a great idea and seems to work better than the prior generation tube, but the retractable aspect needs to be either fixed or removed from these machines.  Ours stopped retracting about 2 weeks into use.  It still functions, but the lack of a manual way to retract the cord seriously detracts from its use.

Overall, it's nice, and I guess it has a role, but I was hoping for a true improvement, but feel like it has too many trade offs to truly place that.

A few flaws keep it from being great

All was well until the hand vac attachment broke after 3 weeks of use .  I can still use the bag vac seal part which does work well, but cannot use the attachment at all.  The main reason I wanted this was to vac seal mason jars as well as the bags.  I am really disappointed.  I spent some time researching online and from what I can tell, there is no way to replace/repair the attachment.

Hand Attachment Broke After 3 Weeks of Use.

This is my 5th unit. All failed between 2 and 3 years.   I rate my use as moderate and I go through multiple rolls and boxes of precut bags per year. the features on the top end unit, such as the one touch seal, wet and dry modes and easy to use clean up tray are great.  The reliability of the unit is not so great.  After a year or two of service the vacuum pump does not draw enough to remove all the air from the bags.  And about 3 to 6% of the bags sealed failed in the freezer completely wiping out any "savings" from freezer burn etc.  Very frustrated. For sure this is my last unit from this company.
