I received product reimbursement in exchange for my honest review.  Frost king is top of the line in insulation.  My utility bills have almost doubled.  I'm doing everything I can to save energy and money.  Water heater insulation could reduce standby heat losses by 25%–45% and save you about 7%–16% in water heating costs—and should pay for itself in about a year. You can find pre-cut jackets or blankets available from around $20. Most experts agree that heat loss in a gas water heater goes up the flue. I chose the best one, for the best value. Frost king….. is a superior product!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Frost King SP57/11C (R10 Vinyl-Backed Fiberglass Insulation Blanket) is a budget-friendly for reducing standby heat loss. It fits up to 60-gallon tanks. However  the fit can be tight depending on the tank's circumference. Some of the newer 60gallon tanks are MORE than 75”in circumference!! . The blankets circumference is 75”  SO PLEASE MEASURE YOUR TANK BEFORE ORDERING!  You will definitely know you need one if you can feel it slightly warm to the touch. 

REAL BENEFITS: 
We have noticed their water heater comes on less frequently.  Ours is in the attic, so if yours is their or in the garage or basement then I'd definitely say you will benefit not only from energy savings, but your anode rods will last longer as well as your tank!

FULLY INSULATED? 
We have a Bradford White insulated water heater tank. Yes, it has SOME insulation, but NOT ENOUGH according to those  utility audit companies that offer energy audits.  

SAVINGS HINT!!
The best time to add a water heater blanket is when it first gets installed! IF you don't want to spend the time to put it on then the installers will probably be able to do that…and obviously cheaper than calling someone to come put it on!! 

INSTALLATION

Wearing gloves, sealed eye goggles and mouth/nose covering, long sleeve shirt and pants!  suggest a plastic bag to put your outer layer clothes in so you don't lose fiberglass hairs walking in the house…ESPECIALLY if you have little ones! Yes… your four footed members as well! 😊


SEALING THE BLANKET

Using a roll of high-quality aluminum foil  tape on hand if you have it, as the provided roll is not the best. Trust me you only want to do this once whether it's you or someone else. This is especially true in a variable temp setting …anyplace that is NOT in the living space! 

The highquality aluminum foil tapes use acrylic adhesives that won't dry out or fail under extreme temperature changes.

A relative of mine that's a contractor said he would only use: 

• 3M Foil Tape 3340: 

He says it's the best! It has a thick 2.0 mil aluminum backing and It maintains a strong bond in temperatures ranging from -40°F to 300°F.

He also mentioned using Nashua 324A Premium Foil Tape
A popular alternative to 3M, Nashua 324A is usually easier to find and a little  more budget-friendly. The label says it's code-approved for duct joints and performs exceptionally well in cold weather. So IF you live in the great white north this  might be a better choice! 

Polyken 339 Cold Weather Tape is another one I researched and is a third runner up.  I'm only doing the install once so if you agree then go with the SPECIFIC 3M Foil Tape  I highly recommended above!  Not all 3M Foil Tapes are the same!

Frost King  Expert Professional Tips!

The foil is entirely too thin. I can buy thicker aluminum foil at the Dollar Store. It tears too easily. Also this particular item was much too large for 40 gallon tank. Wasted a lot of insulation made fiberglass go everywhere. Once finally installed it does perform as advertised. There is improvement on water temperature.

Good product but outer foil too thin
