Say goodbye to the Galaxy 99, say hello to the new Galaxy DX94HP. The new Galaxy DX94HP is the model that has replaced the age-old DX99V for which everyone had a thing for, at least at one point or another. As they say, out with the old in with the new. The DX94HP offers many improvements over the DX99V the most noteworthy of which is a massive increase in modulated output power, up to 100 watts in fact. The DX94HP utilizes FOUR, you heard it, 4x IRF520 MOSFET final transistors yielding a whopping output power of 100 watts, that's over 60 watts more than the DX99V! In effort to match a progressive market Galaxy has opted to continue with the all blue LED system which is fast becoming the standard. Another big plus is the EL faceplate, which allows for faceplate illumination with a variable control over the brightness level. Combine these new features with the time honored standards of the 99 like the Galaxy large meter display, (blue) frequency counter, Single Sideband, Echo, Voice Changer, and roger beep. The DX94HP is sure to make it's mark. 100 watt maximum ouptut power from four IRF520 MOSFETs. Modes: AM/USB/LSB. Maximum current is 25 amps. Heavy-duty DC power cord. Low profile bottom heatsink. Blue LEDs for frequency and channel readouts. Dual blue LEDs light the signature Galaxy large meter. Starlight faceplate illumination. We have mostly migrated to the newer programmable radio technologies but Galaxy produces a solid product and this radio is no exception.  The Galaxy DX94HP is a nice power compromise between the stout DX98VHP and the rest of the Galaxy product group.   This radio passed all initial quality build checks unlike the DX99v2 we purchased a few months eatlier with numerous issues.  On the bench the DX94HP passed the frequency and final output power checks.  This radio draws a max of ~25A under full SSB transmission so for use a base station a 30A power supply is recommended.   The internal meter tested satisfactory in all modes, S/PO/SWR.   The radio has an internal cooling fan but if you plan to DX at full power with lengthy duty cycles I would suggest a small external cooling fan to dissipate heat from the case.  Other tests were performed and the unit passed each.  We can recommend the Galaxy DX94HP based upon our experience.
