I'm truly enjoying it so far. I'm impressed by the health features more than anything else yet.  I haven't had a chance to play a round of golf with it, but I'm excited about it.  I like that it counts my steps and is pretty inclusive of all the things I may need.

Approach S50

Garmin

I upgraded from the approach 12 to the S50.  I used my S50 for the first time.  It is easy to use and very accurate.  One of the best features is that very shot distance is measured automatically.  Moving the pin on the green and checking the distance to a bunker or dog leg is easily done on the touch screen.

Easy to use and great features.

Solid product, pretty accurate on the course, only a couple of yards different than my range finder.  The health features are nice!  Easy interface to understand and navigate around!  I did get really sweaty one time and it shut off for a minute on the 2nd day, I was like here we go, but it hadn't done anything like that since!

Nice product!

An upgrade from a Garmin S20, easy to use, great display, tracks steps and mileage, keeps score the HOLE nine yards. Garmin makes this golf watch almost as much fun as the game itself. Love it!

Upgrade

I love the watch for golf.  Allow a few rounds of golf to get it configured the way you like.  There are multiple configuration settings for golf.   I noticed the garmin watch does not count steps as aggressively as my Fitbit.  Also, the garmin watch will not really count steps at all when lawnmowing because my wrist is not moving.   The Fitbit had no problems with this.

Nice

I bought this after my S20 died. The golf functions are better. The HR, steps, and goal settings are great. The silicone rubber band on the S20 was junk. The fabric band on the S50 is a nicer more comfortable band. The Bluetooth and GPS work well with my Samsung android phone.

Nice features, great looking.

I had been eyeing an upgrade from my very reliable S40, I almost went with the S62 when it came out but I didn't like the price point and didn't want to go to the newer version. When the new sensors came out and it was compatible with the S50 at a better price point than the s70, it was a no brainer to upgrade. The GPS connection is so much faster to my old watch and I am no longer getting connection issues, which is especially frustrating when I forget to start my watch on the first tee! The screen is so much brighter and the watch weights even less than my old watch! 

All in all, I am very happy with the S50. There are some quirks that I'm still getting used to, like the extra button that the S40 doesn't have or the way it navigates differently but those are learnt behaviors that will take a bit of time to relearn. I haven't tried the running/biking/lifestyle features yet but I do love that I no longer have to plug in after every round and I can keep wearing the watch over a 2-day period before needing to recharge. If you're thinking of an upgrade, you won't regret that choice.

Awesome upgrade

This is my 4th garmen.  I don't like it as much as the S40.  The S40 showed a running total of how many above par and at the end of 9 showed your 9 hole total and were you going on.  The S50 has lots of bells and whistles but have yet to locate the 9 hole total. The number for the score total are so small they are hard to read.  I would gladly trade in my S50 for my old S40.

I hesitated for some time before purchasing the Approach S70, but ultimately decided against it because it seemed to have too many features and was too expensive. Instead, I chose the S50, which I believed offered simpler functionality at a more reasonable price.

However, when I took the S50 out for my first round of golf, I found that the course view was not displayed on the screen. After returning home and checking further, I discovered that I would need to pay additional fees and subscribe to a membership in order to access the golf course view.

When I was considering the S70, I was informed that all course views were preloaded, so I naturally assumed the same would be true for the S50. While it is partly my responsibility for not reading the specifications more carefully, the product images clearly show a vivid course view on the display. Based on those images alone, I reasonably expected that the course view would be available. Learning that I must pay a monthly subscription fee just to see the course view leaves me at a loss for words.

If I pay the membership fee for about three years, the total cost becomes equivalent to the price of the S70. I find this to be a very underhanded marketing practice. There are many products on the market that are cheaper than the S50 and still provide course view functionality without additional charges.

Because I do not wish to pay even a single additional dollar for what I consider to be such an unfair business practice, I have decided to stop using the S50 altogether. This is my review of Garmin products.
