Simple to navigate and access information.

Easy transfer of settings from previous devices.

Offers clear directions, but can be overwhelming and unclear at times.

Works great. I personally prefer the buttons because I do a lot of MTB and muddy gravel.

walmart.com

I really liked the simplicity of my Garmin 530 and the fact that you could set it up to give you just the information you need at the time you need it. The 540 has taken that to another level, with a better screen, battery, and more refined overall. They put a lot of thought in this generation and it is well worth it.

Well Done!

Garmin

Had to buy this to replace a 530 that I lost in a parking lot and got run over by cars. The 530 was great, though starting to be slow to respond. I appreciate the 540's consistency with the 530 plsu some new features -- especially (so far) being able to either shift gears or swipe screens from my SRAM satellite buttons on the shifters (haven't decided yet which I like better.) It's kind of weird that the unit is a little bigger than the 530, but font sizes on screens are smaller. I still don't see any need for touch screen so 540 is the way to go.

Happy with this Edge 530 replacement

Bought it to match up with the new radar tail light. The beep was not very audible on my old edge 830 and now I can hear clearly when a car comes up behind, that alone was worth the price, other than that it is just a really good bike computer but the new visuals and beeping for the radar make it worth the price

Basic but very useful

I don't need most of the fancier metrics including the navigation that this device provides, so I had initially purchased a cheaper competitor. Bad idea. This device connects immediately to GPS and handles the poor signal in my hilly location. It also has the familiar Garmin interface which I find more intuitive and allows me to customize my home page without spending a half day doing it. I won't repeat my mistake again.

Still the Gold Standard in cycle computers

I would fill the title with happy emojis if I could because I can finally turn off the universally-hated useless confusing Virtual Partner! Now my clients won't get lost following the wrong arrow on the map. This is the best upgrade over the 530's and older. Some less exciting nice things: USB-C plug, no major changes to menus, slightly clarified right button functions (onscreen icons), nice mini map data field. No crazy revamps, just a reliable and familiar device. A few things I'm not so sure about: button tones don't always beep (turned on), autorouting/re-routing is hit or miss.

Virtual Partner is dead! HURRAH!!

Does everything I need! Takes some time to get the programming down, (I would highly suggest downloading the Owners Manual) do not use AI, it is confusing and was not accurate 50% of the time. Use the old fashion Owners Manual and you will work your way through it.

I was thinking that the 540 would be a step up from my 530, but not sure it is. The graphics and additional features are nice, but I can't say I like it. The computer boots up faster, but the menu system and trying to negotiate it using the buttons is very cumbersome and difficult. I'll probably relegate it to the trainer bike.

Not a step up from the 530

After about a month of use, I like the screen size, still need to fine the the setting. Battery life for now is great. The. 540 plus has too many features. If I could I would trade the 540 plus for a 520 plus. The 520 is much easier to navigate.

With it came with better instructions

This is the first Garmin device that I really am not excited about. Have used multiple Garmin devices from watches to navigation systems that were intuitive and easy to use but the Edge 450 so far is not easy to use. From the basic setup I found it difficult to just get to the setup menu for adding sensors. Once I did get to the right location it took several tries to get the sensors added. Then on my first ride I did finally get to a display that showed the data that I needed. However the mileage was slightly off. On my second ride a popup message showed that it had detected a new cadence sensor about a minute into the ride and the message would not clear except momentarily when selecting either the check button or the X button. The only way I got this message to clear was to do a power off and restart. The good news is that I had all the data for the ride on my Garmin watch. Hopefully after a few more rides I will finally get use to the less than intuitive menu options and find a better way to handle popup messages. I didn't need a fancy bike computer just wanted basic information which the Edge 450 provides but was hoping that it would be a bit easier to use. The one great feature is the radar display which does work as advertised.

Poor Menu Selection Design

The amount of time I had to spend to shut down all the annoying features is such a waste. The worst part is that after all that time there are features for depressed millenials (I am 66 and kicking butt - definitiely not a depresed milllenial) I CANNOT turn off. nobody gives a crap if an inanimate object congratulates them for a PR on a recovery rider. My Edge is not my coach, trainer, cheerleader or friend it is JUST a data acquisition system with a display. I give the edge props for collecting data and presenting it to me in clear ways. The UI is in dire need of an expert. It takes more than a dozen clicks to delete said recovery ride! Fire your head of SW then rehire him/her after you all agree to get rid of the bloatware or at least let me THE MONEY PAYING CUSTOMER turn it off.

BLOATWARE!
